[Mind Hacks] Offline Hacks Tricks and Tweaks

0 Comment(s)
What can you do without Internet? You will not notice that until you spend couple of days without Internet. You will notice that you cannot do much with your computer without Internet. So what can you do during that time?

That would be the best time to relax and enjoy the things around you. During that time you can do some relaxation exercises such as meditation as there will not be much interruption. You will be able to use your mind power to get things done rather than get it done though Internet. That would be a great mind hack that you can do during a time you live without Internet and connection to the outer world.

You will miss lot of things and you will notice that you cannot do most of the things you did before. For me it was a hard time to live without Google. No need to mention that Google play a major role in every part of life and you can get all the information you need from cyber space. During such time you will not get any help from Google. First you have to get used to live with a emptiness.

Stop thinking about the things you cannot do. Make a list of things around you and you can do without Internet. You will be surprise how many things you can do without Internet. That list will make you feel better and reduce the emptiness in your mind. Even if you think you need Internet to complete a job I am sure you will have a alternative method for most of the things.

It will be the best time to organize your mp3, movies, documents and all the files you have. You can run a defragmenter, clean up the computer a bit. However, remember not to do major changes or deletions, because it might crash your computer and you will not be able to fix it or retrieve it for a while.

You can always refer to couple of good books if you have any. You can always go through what you have learnt and experienced and refresh the memories. These simple tasks will keep you busy during a time you do not have a Internet connection to join with rest of the world. Read more...

How to Sync your mobile with Gmail contacts

0 Comment(s)
It is always important to sync your contacts with your mobile as you take it everywhere. This is how you can sync Gmail contact with your mobile.

Your phone will sync using the your "My Contacts" group within Gmail. Here are some tips for cleaning up that group so it's exactly the people you want to sync, and some big caveats to be aware of in this beta release:

iPhone users: Google Sync will remove all existing contacts and calendar events from your phone, so make sure to back up (PC instructions, Mac instructions) your data before you set it up. Remove contacts that you don't want to sync to your phone. From the "My Contacts" section of the contact manager, select the contact you want to remove, click "Groups" and then "Remove from My Contacts."

Merge duplicates so friend@theirgmailaddress.com and samefriend@theirworkaddress.com both belong to the same contact. To do so, select both contacts, and click "Merge these 2 contacts." When you merge contacts, your address auto-complete won't work as well as before. We're working on a fix for this, but until that's out you might notice addresses showing up in a suboptimal order in auto-complete, e.g. your friend's work address coming up first when you're used to emailing their Gmail address.

Once you set up Sync, changes you make to your calendar or contacts are reflected on your device within minutes since the connection is over-the-air and always on. And it's two way, so your calendar and contacts are always up-to-date, no matter whether you make changes on your phone or from your browser. Also, since your information is automatically backed up to your Google account, it's securely stored even if you accidentally drop your phone in the pool. Getting your address book and calendar to a new phone is as easy as setting up Sync again.

Step by step guide to syn your mobile with Gmail.

For devices that support the open SyncML protocol, Google Sync will sync your contacts, but not your calendar.

Try Sync out by visiting m.google.com/sync or visit our Help Center to review device specific instructions.

[Google] How to know Who is searching What from Where?

0 Comment(s)

Are you interested knowing what people are searching using Google? Why not? If you are running a blog or a website this might be quite useful to identify strong keywords and weak keywords. Also that's one of the basic steps of Search Engine Optimisation.

I found Google Insights for search (Beta) as powerful tool when it comes to have an ideas what world is searching. You can compare by search term, location or the time period. You can do a simple query about "Entertainment Category in US for last 30 days and it will show you related search terms used in US related to Entertainment plus Rising Searches. Simply use a keyword like iPod or computer will give the Reagen in a map where that keyword is more popular. This is quite interesting tool if you are doing a blog or website for a targeted geographical locations.

Do you have any other Keyword search tools like this? What do you think about Google Insights for Search?

Gmail becoming Messy? Is Gmail for Geeks?

0 Comment(s)
Gmail Labs introduce Multiple Inboxes for Labels. So it is kind of taking you out of clean and simple interface. Anyway the best part is it still optional so if you really do not want to make you Gmail account that complicated you can disable these features.

Anyway this is a cool feature. So it is worth trying and keep it if it is really useful.

[BlogSpot]Add Google Adsense Adds in the middle of the Blogger post

11 Comment(s)
Note: I strongly recomend you to back up your template before start editing your blog template from Backup/Restore Template under Layout.

First of all thank you very much Daniele Perilli for letting me use his code which allows you to use Adsense ads in the middle of your Blogger Blog post. Adsense In the Middle Blog  explain simple but effective way to place Adsense or any other Ads network add in the middle of each post in two ways. One is manually telling in each post where to display the Ad and second method is automatically add the Ads in the middle of each post. As I am too lazy to define in each post I likes the second method more. But I needed couple things to be changed.
                       In main page after Displaying three Adsense (Adsense allows only three ads per page) it start displaying blank spaces in middle of other posts.
                       Sometimes it did display part of HTML code ( Specially When there is any image ) in the post and image got disappear.
                       Sometimes I have noticed it display the ads without completing the sentence. I wanted ads to be displayed after end of a sentence.

First let us see how can we add these simple hacks to the Ads in the middle of Blogger post hack.
                      I simply removed the Adsense Ads in the middle of the post when it display on main page. That will keep your main page nice and clean. What I did was I will display ads in the middle of the post when it display as a single post. Still If you like to display some ads I would recommend to enable ads after each post from Layout > Page Element > Click on Edit link in the Blog Posts Element.

Then go to Edit HTML under Layout and tick Expand Widgets check box and find the tag and replace with following code.

<div expr:id='"aim1" + data:post.id'/>

<div style='clear:both; margin:10px 0'>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
<!-- Your AdSense code here -->
<b:if cond='data:post.includeAd'>
<data:adEnd/>
<data:adCode/>
<data:adStart/>
</b:if>
</b:if>
</div>

<div expr:id='"aim2" + data:post.id'>
<data:post.body/>
</div>

<script type='text/javascript'>
var obj0=document.getElementById("aim1<data:post.id/>");
var obj1=document.getElementById("aim2<data:post.id/>");
var s=obj1.innerHTML;
var t=s.substr(0,s.length/2);
var r=t.lastIndexOf(". ");
if(r&gt;0) {obj0.innerHTML=s.substr(0,r+ 1);obj1.innerHTML=s.substr(r+ 2);}
</script>

Then click Save Template and check how Adsense Ads will display in middle of each post when you go into a post. Once again I am really thank full to Daniele for letting me update original  Adsense In the middle of Blogger Post code. I hope to discuss more hacks and tricks you can do with this in future. Please let me know what you think about it and ways you would like to display Adsense Ads and also if you come cross any bug or cool ideas share with us.

[GoodWebsite] How to build a cool blog/website Part2

3 Comment(s)
First post we have gone through in point format how you can have a good website/blog. Unless you are running a business or you have a good income from your websites/blog it is bit hard to spend lot of money on a website. This will be mainly focus on people who would like to have a website or blog for fun. Anyway it is always better to keep your options as your idea might pick up and end up as a success business.

How can you give a good start?

You might get cool ideas while you are walking around, just before going to bed or any minute or so. If you think of starting a blog, forum or website on any of that cool topic, first thing you should do is to buy the best available domain name.

Why this blog itself does not have a custom domain name?

It is simply because I did not buy the domain name before I start this blog. After sometimes it will be too late to transfer it to another domain name as it will loose Google Page Rank, Might loose inbound links and you have to change all the in bound links from other websites. Currently I am experimenting the best way to change this Blogger domain to a custom domain with minimum bad impact on the blog. It will be interesting post in future but for anyone who is going to start blogging I strongly recommend just buy the domain name as soon as you think you have got a cool idea for a website.

Why you should buy a domain name first?

I have pointed out in several posts, buying a domain is a small investment which might end up as a big investment.

You need to spend less than $10.00 for a domain name for the year. That can be saved from many ways which I am not going to talked about here.

You will have a proper identity on internet. This is quite important when it comes to internet world. After having a domain name you will have a email address with your name and your domain name which will looks like myname@mydomain.com. People will trust and take you seriously when they get an email from such an email address. Why? Anyone can create a email account with Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or any other free email account. Plus multiple accounts can be created under different identity. With a custom domain only domain owner or authorised person can create a email account with that domain.

Where should I buy the domain name? Is it really important?

Yes. It is really important to select a domain registrar that suite for your requirements. First I thought the same. Why not buy it from anyone but later I found out service you are going to get will depend on place you buy the domain.

Example I am using the Blogger as the blogging platform and when it comes to configuring with custom domain, email account or any other service it required me to add CNAME records. With my previous domain name registrar could not provide that facility unless I purchase a shared server from them and direct my domain name to that server. But you are not required to do so if you buy it from a recommended company by Blogger. It can save up $10 - $20 dollars per month. If you are planning to use Blogger account for your blog following will be the preferred list of domain registrar

GoDaddy.com
ix web hosting
1and1
EveryDNS.net
Yahoo!SmallBusiness
No-IP
DNS Park

Also Blogger Help provide settings for each of them separately so no need to understand the complicated terms and theories.

What would be the worst case of buying a domain?

I cannot think of any worst case in buying a domain name. If your idea did not work out and you are too lazy to do any thing with the domain name maximum you will loose will be $10.00. Remember to cancel Auto renew (in most cases it is the default) so it will expired. However, if you cannot afford to loose $10.00 you can simply park your domain and recover the cost.

If I look back you need to have a cool idea (Idea which you think it is cool and you think you can work around it and doesn't matter what others think) and buying the best suite, available domain name is a good start for creating a cool website or a blog.

So far you spend $10.00 per year and saves $10.00 - $20.00 per month.

Google Hacked??? - This is crazzy

1 Comment(s)
Google Error - Google May Harm Malware Warning

I am tried searching for few things on google and all the results i got back said this site may harm your computer with a Malware Warning.

I thought it was problem related to my search query BUT

then I search for Google website from google and I got the same result. Here are the screenshot.

I tried restarting my computer, using firefox browser, chrome browser - everything returned the same. even tried google.com.au, google.com etc

Any one else experienced this problem??

Either the Google search Index is corrupted or Google is Hacked!

UPDATE: Google is BACK! :) We will have to wait for an official announcement from Google on the situation. I hope no private data stored on Gmail were compromised

Update: Google uses Stopbadware.org as its Malware partner and it had outsourced the malware check to it. Stopbadware.org is Down that brought down

Update: Spam emails spluring out into Inbox in Gmail after the Google May Harm situation. Hope this will be resolved soon

Update: Here's a official word from Google on the incident. I thought the Internet was coming to an end. I am Proud to have witnessed this event myself on the 31st of January 2009 :)

The company today blamed the mistake on human error and apologised to users and site owners whose pages were incorrectly labelled.

The glitch occurred between 1.30am and 2.25am, Google Inc said in an explanation on its company blog.

Anyone who did a Google search during that time likely saw the message "This site may harm your computer" accompanying every search result, the company said.

Google said it routinely flags any search results with that message if the site is known to install malicious software in the background or otherwise surreptitiously, a practice aimed at protecting its users.

It gets its list of suspicious sites from StopBadware.org, a non-profit project headed by legal scholars at Harvard and Oxford universities who research consumer complaints.

Today's error happened when the latest update to the list was received from StopBadware but was checked in such a way that the warning would apply to all URLs, the company said in a statement.

The glitch was caught by on-call staff and the file was quickly fixed, Google said.

Since the updates are applied in a staggered and rolling fashion, the errors began appearing at 1.27am and disappeared no later than 2.25am, with the duration for any particular user approximately 40 minutes, it said.

"We will carefully investigate this incident and put more robust file checks in to prevent it from happening again," said Marissa Mayer, vice-president of search products and user experience, in the statement.
