Google has released the search volumes its trend for the late Michael Jackson. This is what Google blog says

""Search volume began to increase around 2:00pm, skyrocketed by 3:00pm, and stabilized by about 8:00pm. As you can see in Google Hot Trends, many of the fastest rising search queries from yesterday and today have been about Michael Jackson's passing (others pertained to the death of another cultural icon, Farrah Fawcett). People who weren't near a computer yesterday turned to their mobile phones to check on breaking news. We saw one of the largest mobile search spikes we've ever seen, with 5 of the top 20 searches about the Moonwalker."

Some cases it start opening up the web page over and over again without giving any chance to close them. This can be experiences only in Internet Explorer and we are keep on searching for what is the cause for that.

First of all it is not causing by any virus malware or any doggy program. It seems to be a compatibility issue or Internet Explorer issue.

If it keeps on opening up the same page continuously open up the Task Manager (Ctr + Alt + Del) and kill the iexplorer.exe and you can control it.

We have experienced the same problem with many other website such as Facebook, Google and the problem start if we try to close Internet Explorer before the page loads 100%.

Solutions
Temporary solutions is to use FireFox or Google Chrome.

Let's make the web faster

Everyone loves when web page loads faster and allows you to works smoothly. Google is one of the top players out there who makes simpler faster web applications.

What Google has learnt about web performances and what are the main challenges.

* Many protocols are created when there wasn't any broad band and interactive web apps.

* Web Browsers should support feature-rich and computationally-complex applications.

* You can always make your application faster using Tools such as YSlow and Page Speed.

* Not many people around the world use broadband.

Untill these challanges are won you can make your simple web application faster by using following tools.

(Tools: Page Speed, AOL Page Test, Cuzillion, Fiddler 2, Firebug, Hammer head, httperf, httpWatch, IBM Page Detailer, JSLint, Microsoft VRTA and many more ...)

What is Google Profile?

A Google profile is simply how you present yourself on Google products to other Google users. It allows you to control how you appear on Google and tell others a bit more about who you are. With a Google profile, you can easily share your web content on one central location. You can include, for example, links to your blog, online photos, and other profiles such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and more. You have control over what others see. Your profile won't display any private information unless you've explicitly added it.

You can also allow people to find you more easily by enabling your profile to be searched by your name. Simply set your existing profile to show your full name publicly.

If you've been writing reviews on Google Maps, creating articles on Google Knol, sharing Google Reader items, or adding books to your Google Book Search library, you may already have a profile. See and customize your profile.

We're still working to improve profiles on Google. Please submit your suggestions and comments to help us decide where to go next.

Sample profile

Receive messages. Enable the 'Send a message' feature to allow anyone with a Google Account to email you without revealing your email address.

Add photos. Enhance your profile by embedding photos from Flickr or Picasa.

Create a page about you. Write a short bio in the About me tab, reveal your superpower, and tell people what you still can't find using Google.

Add your contact information. Share your information with your friends and family, so they always have the most up-to-date information. You control who sees it.

Add links to your other profiles and sites. Make it easier for friends to see your other content on the Web. You can link to Google content, including your Blogger blog, public Picasa Web Albums and Google Reader shared items as well as other pages on the Web such as Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Show your location. 'My places' includes all the cities you've entered on your profile. Your current location and where you've lived are displayed on a map.

How twitter can kill your computer

Malware Threat is one of the trending topics in twitter search. What is it all about? It is basically about some malware links start to use twitter trending topics. Pretty much a new way to catch large number of twitter users.

how it works? According to mashable.com it malware links comes with normal tweets and and only affect you if you click on any of these links.

Beware “Twitterbest” and “Zasaden” in Twitter Search

Do not click on any of the linkes with these keywords.

If you click it will take you to a page that prompt you to upgrade the flash plug in and if you agree to download it the software install it self and then a error message saying there is a virus in your computer and need to download a Antivirus called "Fast-anti-virus-2009" for $89. (Goal of the malware)

Do not click on any of the links with these keywords “Twitterbest” and “Zasaden”.

Do not install any software or upgrade any drivers that pop up from any of the links.

It will be a really hard hard task to track the links as liks can be hidden using tools that use to shorten the urls (commonly use in twitter).

Also twitter shows the real time trending topics and that allows the attackers to target the most number of users at that time. Imagine if Google started to display real time trending search will create a big mess.

Allow PING when Windows Firewall is on

We ve been talking about the how we can use basic Windows command line command "ping" and how it can be used to identify network and Internet related issues.

There are some cases where ping does not work. Specially other machine (which you want to ping) is firewall enabled. In that case ping would give a request timeout. That does not mean that you are having issues with the connection between those two machines.

First check whether the Windows Firewall is enabled. If it is enabled you can allow only ping command without disabling the Windows Firewall. In that way your computer is protected.

How to allow ping with Windows Firewall (Windows XP)?

Click Start
go to Control Panel
click Windows Firewall (If you are in classic mode)
go to Advances tab
click Settings button under ICMP
check Allow incoming echo request
click Ok and Ok

Quickest way to fix this is to disable Windows Firewall but it is always a good practice to allow only the services you need and keep the firewall on.

There is a tool Hardping Pro 1.0.1 which will ping a computer even when it's firewall is enabled.

Quick Look at IE8

Microsoft Internet Explorer has a really bad history comparing to the FireFox and Google Chrome. Microsoft has released the new Internet Explorer 8 and it has address the issues that it has been suffering from.
Speed, Security, Add-ons, Reliability is couple of basic points where other browsers were in front of IE8.

Let Downloaded IE8 and give it a try.

It downloaded and Installed without any problem.
Browser is faster than its Previous versions.
Works well with the websites I visit. It loads the web pages faster.
Compatibility (Plug ins and Tool bars I have installed before) is not a issue so far.
8 Good things about IE 8
Colour coding for related tab is really simple but cool feature.
Internet Explorer Add-ons Gallery provide a vide range of add-ons to your IE8.
Microsoft comparison (IE8 Vs FireFox 3 Vs Google Chrome)
Windows IE8 Myth Busting. I think I can agree with this.

Things missing in IE8

When you right click on a link in FireFox and Chrome it gives option to save the link. I cannot see that function in IE8. You cannot move the IE8 Tabs out just like in Google Chrome.

Overall I can see a big improvement in IE8 and they have really though of improving the basic issues it had. What do you think about IE8.

Syncing contacts with Gmail never been so easy

Gmail was lacking some contact fields that makes the life bit harder when you sync your Outlook or OS X Address book with Gmail contacts. Gmail will put all these extra fields under the note section which you or Gmail dose not have much control over it.

Gmail fix this by adding some extra fields to support Outlook, Outlook express and any other email.

" We updated the standalone contact manager with this improvement last month and now it's available in Gmail too, with support for Outlook, Outlook Express, Hotmail and Yahoo in CSV format, and OS X Address Book in vCard format. "

Why not organize all the contacts in Gmail where you can access it from any where and sync it with other devices or Software.

When will be Microsoft Windows 7 released?

Microsoft Corp said on Tuesday ( 2nd of June 2009) its new Windows 7 operating system will be generally available on October 22, well ahead of its original schedule and in time for the holiday shopping season.

The new operating system, which will replace the unpopular Vista, was originally planned for roll-out at the beginning of next year, but Microsoft confirmed last month that it would hit the market in time for the year’s busiest buying period.

Microsoft said it will send Windows 7 code to PC makers to load onto new machines — known in the industry as “release to manufacturing” — around the end of July.

By October 22, people will be able to buy new computers with Windows 7 installed, or pick up the software off the shelf to install on their old computers.

Microsoft confirmed that it will run a program whereby people who buy PCs with certain versions of Vista before October 22 can get a free upgrade to Windows 7, but it has not yet released details.

What Google Chrome Thumbnails can tell about you

If you are using Google Chrome this might be something you might have to think twice. This is something really simple but can be end up with serious results.

Google Chrome has this user friendly feature that will show the thumbnails of the mostly visited websites by you. It is quite similar to take a print screen. I have noticed that it keep on taking the password protected pages. For example I can see the view of my Gmail, Facebook accounts in the Chrome Thumbnails.

If you working on a shared computer environment this is something you must take into consideration as these thumbnails might gives out any secret information of you out. If it is a regular page that you visit and if it display some of your secrets or secret picture in a password protected page but Google chrome might show it out.

Always use the Remove Thumbnails link below to remove such thumbnails from Google chrome New Tab.

Default Username and Default Password

Most of the hardware (eg: routers, modems) and software that requires a login comes up with a default user name and a password for you to login to the system for the first time. Setting up and giving out different user name and password for each hardware component is costly. So default user name and password is a commonly used method.

Couple of common default user name or passwords used as follows.
admin, system, administrator, user, password, change it, manager, root, secret, secure, backdoor. Sometimes they have used the brand name as the default user name or the password.

Normally if you have purchased a new hardware you can easily find the default user name and the password with the user manual. First thin you must do is to change the default user name and the password to something else. Because someone else will be able to login to your hardware by using the default user name and password.

However, in a situation where you do not have the manuals or do not remember the user name and the password but still if you want to login to the control panel to change the configurations you will have to do a reset ( Hardware reset button will be there ) and then use the default user name and password to login and reconfigure it. When you do a hardware reset you will loose all the previous configuration and settings.

I find this default password list quite useful when it comes to login to routers and modems or any type of hardware that requires a login. Remembering the common default user name and password can save your day specially if you do not have Internet connection. Imagine a time you try to configure your router or modem to get the new Internet connection.

How to diagnose Harddrive problems

Do you have a harddrive that makes a clicking noise? Are you worried about the health of your harddisk? Is your computer overheating and possibily damaging the harddrive?

Well, there is one easy way to find out with the HDDhealth Utility.

Here's what the creator's have to say about the software. I personally use it and find is extremely useful.

You can download it from here.

HDD Health is a full-featured failure-prediction agent for machines using Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 and XP. Sitting in the system tray, it monitors hard disks and alerts you to impending failure. The program uses Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new hard disks, and can predict failures on your hard drives. A host of alerting features include email, local pop-up messages, net messages, and event logging, while using no system resources.
