Add or Update your SQL databse with Excel

0 Comment(s)
Today's hack is to show quick way to update or add thousands of SQL Database record using Excel. Best part of this hack is that you do not have to have much SQL skills or programming skills to update your database. This method is really helpful when you do not find any method to bulk update or add through your application.

Lets See how you going to update or add thousands of records with in couple of minutes using Excel.

Requirements

1. Exact SQL Query to Update or Add the SQL table.
2. String Concatenation in Excel

1. Exact SQL Query to Update or Add the SQL table

If you are familiar with SQL queries writing an query for add or update for a given table is not that hard. But I am too lazy to do that as more than query skills it requires to get all the column names and give the values for each column accordingly. Most of the present database management tools (MSSQL management tools or MySQL managements tools) gives add, update and other SQL queries for a given table. Most of the cases you just have to right click on the table and select the query you want and BINGO it will generate the query for you. Copy the SQL Query that was generate or you have written by your self.

2. String Concatenation in Excel
This is the tricky part and I have couple of secrets to revealed here. So it is better to go through a example and you can apply it to any SQL Query.
1. Open up new Excel work sheet and paste your query there. It will be in single cell.

In this case I will take a simple MS SQL query that will add the item type for set given item in ItemType table.

INSERT INTO [MyDB].[dbo].[ItemType] ([ItemNo],[Type]) VALUES ('1000','S1');

2. Then Identify the areas that will change from record to record and the areas that will stay the same for all the records.

I will bold all the area that are dynamic.
INSERT INTO [MyDB].[dbo].[ItemType] ([ItemNo],[Type]) VALUES ('1000','S1');

3. Now start taking each section of the query and paste it in different cells.

Sections for our example will be like this

Section 1 - INSERT INTO [MyDB].[dbo].[ItemType] ([ItemNo],[Type]) VALUES ('
Section 2- 1000
Section 3 - ','
Section 4 - S1
Section 5 - );
So each section should go into a different cell in the same row.

Tip
You will notice that when ever you try to copy Section 3 (',') the first single quote will get disappear in Excel. You have to enter another extra quote to fix this problem. So Section 3 will be rewritten as follows.

Section 3 - '','

4. Now you have to recreate the SQL Query that you copied using Excel String Concatenation.

In the same row leave one cell space after the query and select the next cell. Click on Insert Function button (fx) and it will POP up a Windows. Select Text and then Concatenate. Another window will be open with Text1 Text2 fields. Apply each section for each text field in the same order.

The final result of String Concatenation should give you the exact same SQL Query you start with.

5. You are pretty close to finish updating couple thousands of records in your database. Now you have to get all the relevant record in your database and updated fields in Excel.
Tip: Always try to do or get the updated work in Excel. You can do that by providing the existing data in a Excel Sheet or any data entry or someone who is going to update your records.

Otherwise you have to copy and paste the data from another file type to excel and clean it up a little bit.
Anyway Excel is quite powerful in sorting, grouping filtering and changing thousands of fields as the same time. Speed and the options would be much better than your application (in most of the cases). Anyway it is a different set of skill which we will go through later.
6. Copy and paste fields in appropriate columns in your excel.

In our example I have only two fields and I will copy the set of Item numbers and Item Type Code is the two columns that we bold in Step 2.

7. Select each cell including the Concatenated one (but excluding the dynamically changing cells) and click on the small black box at the bottom right hand corner ner and drag it down until the row that last dynamic field is populated. It is some thing like if you have 9000 records you need to fill other cells (SQL Query) in those 9000 cells.
Warning : Always remember to Back up your database before applying this step.

8. Finally you all individual SQL query for all your records in the Concatenated field. Updating or Adding it really dose not matter. Select all the rows and copy and paste it to the SQL Query execution window. and Execute the Query. Either it will add all the records or updated.
That's it!

Warning : Always remember to Back up your database before applying this step.

Update queries may update the whole table or wrong row base on the conditions you have provided.

You can do deleting certain rows from database tables using this method as well. Again it will have the same risk deleting the whole table or wrong rows base on the condition you specify. Always double check before you execute the query.

Use this hack make you life easy and share your experience with us.

Push Gmail for iPhone and Windows Mobile

1 Comment(s)
Gmail has become something that you cannot live without. Most of the time it is necessary to check the updates in your Gmail as all your information communications contacts are centralized with Gmail. So they have come up with more ways to connect with Gmail and sync it using your iPhone or Windows mobile.

Apple iPhone - Windows Mobile SkinImage by six steps  via Flickr

This is what Gmail says about this new feature and how to apply it.
"ou can set up push Gmail by itself or choose to sync your Contacts and/or Calendar as well. If you're using an iPhone, make sure you're running iPhone OS version 3.0 or above (on your device, click Settings > General > About and scroll down until you see Version). If your software is out of date, follow Apple's upgrade instructions. Then, visit m.google.com/sync from your computer for set up instructions. If you're already using Google Sync, you can just enable push mail.

Once you're set up, new messages are normally pushed to your phone within seconds. While this type of speed is pretty awesome, push connections tend to use more power than fetching at intervals, so don't be surprised if your battery life isn't quite what it used to be. We've done a lot of work to optimize power usage, but if you prefer to save battery life, you can always turn off push in your phone's settings and fetch mail every 30 or 60 minutes instead."

Any FaceBook Account can be hacked for $100

1 Comment(s)
This is something similar to popular Hotmail yahoo mail account password hacking that you can find in ebooks websites and blogs. This time they ask 100 US dollars to hack any Facebook account. Is it just a phishing site or for real?

There is a simple way to get $100 which you cannot complain to any authorities as you are trying to hack someone else Facebook account. Overall this type of campaigns are phishing and either it will collect your username, password, other personal information or get money out of you.

Do not give out any information or send money to any of these type of hacking password retrieval services available online. They know you are doing something bad.

Online Shopping Cart Up and Running Within 24 Hours

1 Comment(s)
Disclosure: We are a professional review site that receives compensation from the companies whose products we review. We test each product thoroughly and give high marks to only the very best. We are independently owned and the opinions expressed here are our own.

If you want to sell some products online you need to have a online shopping cart, payment gateway and of course product to sell. Imagine you have selected the products you want sell across we will tell you a way to setup a shopping cart and make it up and running withing 24hours.

Most of you know how to get a shopping cart and set it up and go live. But what makes it too long to do it. Too many options and you will be lost in all these options and kill time without any productive work.

What are the areas you will most likely lost in making a decision.

1. Select a domain name
2. Select a web hosting company
3. Select a build in shopping cart
4. Select a payment gateway

Crazzycool recommendation is always keep things simple and get things done spending less dollars at the initial stage. Start it simple and when the idea picks up and making profit out of your online shopping cart you can always redesign it to suite your needs.

1. Select a domain name

If you already have a business name, the domain name should be with that name. .Com should be the first choice unless you are restricting your product only for one location.

If you prefer buying a domain describe your product or service it will take some times to select a good domain name. Basic hack I would use is Yahoo domain names. Only reason is yahoo domain names gives you similar domain name option for keywords you have given. Try to select the meaningful, shorter domain name. Do not spend time looking for three letter domain names. Its all GONE. Also do not buy it straight away.

2. Select a web hosting company

Let us recommend you a web hosting package that works really well. We have used it for many type of web sites and works really well. We have already tested the shopping cart, technical support, emails, databases and all other requirements that basic web server should have. It is nothing but BlueHost and only cost you $6.95 per month. You will get

Unlimited hosting Space
Unlimited File Transfer
2500 POP/IMAP Email Accounts
Free Domain
$50 Credit for Google AdWords (For Online Advertising)
Support PHP and MYSQL

It is compatible with the shopping cart we going to check in shortly. If you are 100% sure about having the online shopping cart and make money and $6.

3. Select a build in shopping cart

OpenCart is one of the coolest open source shopping carts you can find for free. It got so many options that you might required to provide all the information your customers required. Download it and upload it to your BlueHost web hosting account and follow the installation instructions.

4. Select a payment gateway

OpenCart is supporting couple of well known payment gateways. Why don't you choose Paypal and set up an account with them and link with OpenCart. Isn't it fast. Now you have a shopping cart up and running and also ready to take payments as well.

Wait a minute still you do not have products in your shopping cart. I don't think it will be a problem to upload 10 to 20 products to OpenCart withing couple of hours. Please note this is not a technical guide but simplifying choosing better solutions out there quickly. But always we will help you in getting your online shopping cart up and running. if you required any help please leave a comment or send an email.

Official Google Blog: New AdWords bidding tutorial

0 Comment(s)
Last month Google AdWord has launched a new feature called Bid Simulator. Bid simulator estimating the number of clicks or impressions you could received if you had used a different maximum CPC bid. Check out the video tutorial Google AdWard has released...

To start with ....

"In general, when you increase your maximum CPC bid for keywords on search you are able to generate more clicks to your site. This may be because your new bid qualifies you to appear higher up in the Sponsored Links on the search results page, or because your higher bid qualifies your ad to appear in new, more expensive auctions. The goal for you as an advertiser is to decide whether or not these additional clicks come at a cost that is still profitable for you"

Better way to read News with Google Fast Flip

0 Comment(s)

Google has introduced a better way to read news faster just like you flip the page of news paper. Better solution for the slow loading because of most of the news sites are media rich.

"Today we're adding a new experiment to Google Labs: Google Fast Flip, accessible at fastflip.googlelabs.com. Fast Flip is a new reading experience that combines the best elements of print and online articles." Says Google.
If you are a person who reads news online this would be a better solution. New York Times, the Atlantic, the Washington Post, Salon, Fast Company, ProPublica and Newsweek are some of the three dozen of top publishers that Google partnered with.

"We've also made a mobile version of Fast Flip with tactile page flipping for Android-powered devices and the iPhone, so you can browse on the go. This is accessible at the same address." describes further about this cool news reading feature.

Something you never knew about Google Image Search

0 Comment(s)
This might be a feature that you might have dreaming about. Google is working behind the sean so there is less chance that you might be aware of it. Did you know that you can match similar images?

Google Image search has introduce couple of new feature that are quite useful to you. Refine the image search by colour, or copy right status is some of them. Really useful if you are looking for some images to be reused without getting in to problems or looking for some images with same colour for your presentation or web template. The feature we going to see is bit advanced and some of you might have already dreamed the possibilities of such feature.
Google Similar Images will find out the similar images to the one you given. Let me explain it using a example.

Imagine you found a nice picture of Paris Hilton while you surf through the images. You would like to see similar type of images. What exactly mean by similar images? Sample colour patterns same objects and for sure Google is looking for more details in this image search for you. Only what you have to do is click on the link which says Similar Images. You will be surprised how well it will give you the similar images.
Why don't you give it a try with your favorite images around and find similar images.

First Go to Windows 7 Control pannel.

This will pop up a new windows that will allow you to setup the remote desktop settings. Options are similer to other Windows Versions except for couple new options.

Under Remote Desktop select the option

Want to see you blog post in news sites

0 Comment(s)
This is something I have found accidentally and more than hearing my side of the story you would prefer to know how you can put your blog post in 100 top tire news and media sites including reuters, McGraw-Hill USA Today, FoxNews, Gannett, Internet Broadcasting and many more... My favorite is Computer shopper

USA TodayImage via Wikipedia

So is it creating quality content? Unique blog posts? I know these does not sounds good for you. Yes this might help you in some what but it is not they way I am talking about. More simpler and easier way to so.

Submitting your blog to this special directory will do the job for you. You do not have to talk to individual news sites to get your post published.

What is this special blog directory?

There is a time in each blogger that start submitting to hundreds and thousands of blog directories that you come cross. This is some thing I have done at that time and my blog got approved and start getting publishing my blog posts in actual news sites.

Here are couple of post in computer shopper site.
How to: Remove AntiSpy Spider
Install Windows 7 with me

Only thing you have to do is submit your blog to blogburst. If you have already done it and if you are not aware that your posts are already in news and media sites log back to the blogburs and check them out.

Like in most of the blog directories your blog need to meet their minimum requirements and it need to get approved. Even though the site says invitation only you can submit your site and get it approved without a invitation. (I haven't seen ant invitation so far)

Good Luck!

Access online content, without registering in the websites

0 Comment(s)

Going through the searches and links on the email, I came across this fantastic way of viewing content that requires registration, without actually registering for these sites.

Trick I use is to visit BugMeNot and in the search box, enter the webite you want to view content from, for example NyTimes. This will then give you a list of usernames and passwords that you can use to login to the website and view the content. Along with the username and passwords, it provides their accuracy percentage. This way, you dont have to go through the annoyance of registering yourself.

Firefox users can use the extension to automate this process. Upon installing the extension, the websites can be visited by a mere right click on the username/email address text box.

This is surely come in handy... :)

Crazzycool is not a misspelled word any more

0 Comment(s)
This is not a Crazzycool hack or trick or tweak but something you will notice if you Google crazzycool. Google will not try to correct the Crazzycool saying did you mean crazy cool? If you are starting with a brand name with wired spellings then this would be a nice hack

As I mention if you have a website or a blog with a wrong spellings (intentionally done to make it looks cool) or brand name Google will always try to correct it to something English.

How can you get rid of Google spelling suggestions?

I do not know is there any straight forward method to do it but this is something I have notice accidentally. Closest reason I can think of is number of inbound links and number of times the word crazzycool has been found in the Google index. It has found over 5000 pages in Google index.

If theres a quick way to achieve this? May be build the links and spread the word around faster. Youtube and facebook is not considered as misspelled in Google search.

If something can go wrong it will - Murphy's law

This is what Gmail Engineering team says to say out Tuesdays Gmail Problem

Update (2:37 pm): We've fixed the issue, and Gmail should be back up and running as usual. We're still investigating the root cause of this outage, and we'll share more information soon. Thanks for bearing with us.

We know many of you are having trouble accessing Gmail right now — we are too, and we definitely feel your pain. We don't usually post about minor issues here (the Apps status dashboard and the Gmail Help Center are usually where this kind of information goes). Because this is impacting so many of you, we wanted to let you know we're currently looking into the issue and hope to have more info to share here shortly. If you have IMAP or POP set up already, you should be able to access your mail that way in the meantime. Buying a Laptop Computer or Netbook

4 Comment(s)
It is not an easy task to buying a laptop computer. Not just because of the price of the price of the laptops but comparing the features with the prices will easily makes you feel lost. Do not forget that cheap new notebook have new member. Netbooks are cheaper and portable. So how you decide which laptop, desktop or netbook to buy.

How much you can or willing to spend on your new computer, laptop or netbook comes first. Without proper budget you will easily get lost because you can buy one for $500 as well as for more than $5000. I will leave it with you.

Before you go any further spend couple of minutes to go through the hardware requirements and operating system you would prefer. At this stage you will get Windows Vista
or XP with your laptop and soon Windows 7 would be available. In terms of hardware it is Screen Size, RAM, Hard disk space, Processor and video and sound card would be main components you need to think of.

Then it would be better to decide you want to buy a desktop, laptop or netbook. You might need to answer couple of usability question before you make the decision.

* Do I want it to be portable?
* Do I want 5-6 hours of battery life?
* Do I want to use it mainly for internet browsing and access documents and Excels?
* Will I not constantly use it for couple of hours?
* Do I have another computer?
* 1GB - 2GB RAM is quite enough?

If you answer yes to most of the above questions then I would recommend you to go for a netbook which is cheaper, extremely portable and quite handy to take it when you travel. Not recommended for constantly using for longer hours.

* I want to it to be portable?
* I do not really worried about the battery life?
* I want to run couple of general applications and some photo editing applications?
* I will use it for hours and hours?
* I want more RAM and disk space to be used?

Then it is ideal to buy a laptop base on your hardware requirements. You can upgrade/downgrade RAM and hard drive base on your requirement and budget. With netbooks it is bit hard to work for longer hours as the screen is smaller.

If you do not want portability at all and want to run really heavy and experiment with application, operating systems and what to run programing languages and databases you must choose a good desktop. Also if you have a limited budget desktop would be a good option as well.

Try to keep your requirements simple. Otherwise new models will add to the market and you will never end up buying a new computer but wasting your time going through specifications and requirements.

Do not forget to share your experience buying a new laptop, computer or netbook...
