GMail Send mail from another address without "on behalf of"

I did not want to send emails from another address using GMail as it always goes to the other person saying "on behalf of". I am pretty sure you might had the same problem. Most of the cases you do not want to give out all your email addresses to everyone. For example why should you give your personal email for work related problem.

GMail came up with a solution for that.

"We heard your request for another option that wouldn't show the "on behalf of" text loud and clear, and now there's a new option that does just that. Instead of using Gmail's servers to send the message, we'll use the servers where your other email address lives. Since Gmail isn't the originating domain, we don't have to include "Sender" info in the header. No more "on behalf of."

How you going to fix this ? Simple....

To switch to this new method, go to the Accounts page under Settings, and click "edit info" from the "Send mail as" section. Then choose the option to "Use your other email provider's SMTP servers."

Now you can manage all your emails in one place. Yes, you will get lot of emails to one inbox but we will discuss how you can manage it in future...

Official Gmail Blog: Unsubscribing made easy

GMail is adding one more cool feature to support both GMail users and Big email senders. You might have subscribe for a news letter and later you might find it not that interesting. So GMail gives a option to unsubscribe from the newsletter rather than reporting it as spam. This is what GMail Blog says about this cool feature...

We believe you should only get the mail you want to get. Some of you already use the "Report Spam" button on all kinds of unwanted email, and for that we're very thankful: the more spam you mark, the better our system gets at weeding out junk mail.

Search Twitter killing Twitter

Twitter is one of a the popular sites you can find today. Everyone talk about twitter and have a twitter account. Even big players like Google Microsoft use twitter account. Twitter is started as micro blogging that allows only 140 characters and follow people you want and people who find you interesting can follow you. Simple idea but it worked for many people out there to promote their business ideas products over the internet. Introducing Search Twitter turn this simple idea bit complex.
Why is search Twitter page killing Twitter? Twitter is already targeted by spammers. We cannot blame Twitter because spammers pretty much use all the communication methods possible. However, it was quite limited as only the people who follows you can see your tweets and if they find you spamming or not interesting they can stop following you.
Search Twitter add more room for spammers to find out what people are tweet about. You know if you include that keyword BANG so many people would click on your link. Thanks to tinny url and etc you can hide the original URL. You have no clue what your are clicking on or where it is going to take you. On the other hand thats a pretty good way to bring more people to your website or blog. However, it is pretty hard to filter the spammers. Even you can direct people (without any condition) to adult only content website without any problem. Yes it is happening.

That is one reason why Google is not showing real time result on what people are searching on Google. That will directly force you to spam as you know what people are searching right now. Everyone likes couple of extra clicks on your web sites.

As long as you use it as a good tool to generate traffic using relevant content it wont be a problem. I alway use this method to get traffic. But I cannot find may interesting links base on those key words. Can you?

It is always good to make it hard. It gives more important and good value when you earn it. Just like the Google Page Rank. Having Couple of thousands followers would be Gold. But with Twitter Search without making many followers you can get hits to your link.

What do you think is it good or bad?

Google AdSense ads In the middle of Blogger Post

When you place Google Adsense Ads in the middle of the blog posts you have to be little careful that not to confuse the reader. Google does not stop webmasters or bloggers using Ads in the middle of the post or just after the Title. What Adsense Blog says is...

Ads shouldn't be placed under a title or section heading in a way that implies that the ads are not ads.

Previously we have gone through a simple way to add Google AdSense Ads in the middle of the post just after the title using CSS and DIV tags. If you want to change it a little bit and display the ads after couple of lines of the post you can apply this simple CSS and DIV tag.

First of all back up your blogger template as a good practice and please do not blame me if you did not back up. You can read the previous post to get a idea about Google Ads in the middle in details as we more focus on putting couple of lines before the Google Ads.
After backing up your blogger template enable Google Ads to display after each posts.
Search for post-body entry-content (Google chrome and FireFox 3.5 support searching text inside the text box)
Copy the following code between..post-body entry-content and data:post.body div tags (Third red box in the picture.

<!--Add the lines before the Google Ads-->
<!--Change height 20px base on the number of lines you want to change-->
<div style='background-color: transparent; float: left; width: 1px; height: 50px; overflow: hidden;' />
<div style='clear:both; float:left; margin-right:5px; margin-top: 5px;'>
<!--Ads will display only in Post page not in home page-->
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<b:if cond='data:post.includeAd'>
<data:adEnd/>
<data:adCode/>
<data:adStart/>
</b:if>
</b:if>
</div>

Isn't it simple and you can change the height of first div tag under styles to changes number of lines before the Google AdSense Ads.

If you have any problems or comments you are always welcome to share it with us. We will try to help you as much as we can.

Where Google heading?

Google is one of the biggest players in Internet business. No doubt about it. Google Search is their first and strongest product. Google AdWord, Google AdSence and GMail are their other killing online services they provide. Recently they announced that they will move to Operating System war with Microsoft and Apple as well. Google has already done couple of attempts with Google Android and Google Chrome to extend their territory. Are they really a success? Also, having too many beta versions and umcomplete (Google labs) projects in their list and keep on adding more to it dose not sound safe all the time. That raise some questions; whats is behind all this projects? Is Google blindly trying all the possibilities or a all these are small steps for achieving a BIG goal?

I think all these Google lab experiments are heading towards a big goal where they will have a options for any computer or internet user relating to any product what user request. Google has done a pretty good job so far related to improve their client base while improving the quality of their products ans services.

Changing the way people use computers and internet is not going to happened in one day and people do not want that in one day as well. Where Google has changed many thing in internet which were almost impossible at that time.

You are always welcome to join this argument and share your ideas about where Google is heading?

Hiding PIN at ATM's

Not really a hack, but surely a trick. There has been a recent spate of fradulent withdrawl transactions from bank accounts. It can all be attributed to use of ATM's for our so called convenience in this fast moving world.

How do these fraudsters get your card and pin details?

Mini cams can be set up on the ATM ( mostly stand alone ATM's that are not in a bank branch), mainly directly above the keypad. These cams record every activity a user does at the ATM.

So, firstly as the user inserts the ATM card into the machine, since it is facing up, cam is able to snap all the details on the card, such as card numbers, name, expiry, etc.

Then when prompted, user enters their PIN, since camera is directly above the keypad, it records the user entering the PIN.

And Viola, the fraudster now has the card details and the PIN on the account.

Now for the trick part:

Very simple,

1. When using any ATM, always cover your card details with your hand till you have inserted it in the machine.

2. Cover the keypad with your wallet or other hand, when you key in the PIN. PIN can only be retrived by fraudster when they see you keying it in, so if you cover you keypad, there's no way to record it.

Fraudster may use other ways of fetching your card details, but so long as they can't record your pin, the card details are useless.

Hope this helps.

Lets talk about loadedweb.com

Recently I have come cross an interesting blog catalogue and had a great chance to have a small discussion about this cool blog directory loadedweb.com. In couple of words I would say simple interactive free blog catalogue base on geographical locations.

There are so many blog directories. How is loadedweb.com different from other web/blog directories?

In purely technical terms, all other blog directories organize blogs by category.
Loadedweb lists blogs by geography. This also allows blogger to find other blogger in their communities.

What are the main services that loadedweb.com provide?

Right now we are focusing on the local community,
and we are doing this through blogs and twitter for now.

How loaded web can help new bloggers or professional blogger out there?

Through various mechanisms (dofollow links, indexing posts, etc.) we send traffic to blogs.
You can take a look at our stats here:

Loaded web is one of the simplest blog directories I have come cross. Registration page took me less than 30s I guess. Was it a challenge to design really simple interface while providing and gathering all the information required..

No not really. We just constantly had to remind ourselves to keep things simple.
Often we would come up with a design and throw it out because it didn’t pass the “simplicity test.”

What are the future plans with loadedweb.com?

We have a lot of ideas, mostly with regards to local data. But we wouldn’t want to give away anything yet, would we?

If you are a blogger looking for a cool blog directory why don't you try loadedweb.com and do not forget to share your ideas.

Cyber War Started?

"skorea says attackers use IP address in 16 nations"

"US and South Korea hit by cyber attacks"

These are couple of breaking news headlines that you can come today. Yes that sounds like a normal cyber attack. However the difference is that it seems like couple of countries (US, South Korea and North Korea) involved and present they are involved in political arguments base on nuclear testing .

Is this a pre warning that they can do a cyber attack on US or South Korea? I am not sure what they trying to say but anyone knows what is going to happened in a cyber war if one started? Is it just putting government websites offline or change the home pages with funny pictures? Are they going to activate the nuclear bombs? Crash the stock market or financial institutes?

Most of our day today life is depend on computer and Internet. In country's point of view computers and Internet is crucial. In nature internet is not secure at all.

So anything is possible at this stage.

BookMark: Networking Windows with Mac OS X

If you are having problems networking your Windows Computers with Mac computers this web page will provide all the hacks tricks and tweaks you should know. Without wasting your time here is the website; MacRumorsGuides Networking Windows with Mac OS X

Even though Mac and PC is having a bad relationship they can talk to each other and share files and folders without any problem. MacRumorsGuide came in handy to make it happened.

ISSUE1: Mac did not detect the Windows computer

After making the folder in Windows machine shared go to Mac computer.
Go to Go (You have to open the Finder) and Connect to Server. Do not forget to type smb:/// Without smb:// mac will not identify your computers in the network. This is something most of the Windows users are not familiar with.

ISSUE2: Mac cannot Authenticate Windows 2003

Mac computer recodnice the Windows computer and requesting the user name and the password but dose not accept it even you try the Administrator account. Thats because Windows 2003 by default tries to encrypt everything that send to and send from it. So Mac does not undestand Windows 2003 language.

Two Solutions suggested by MacRumorsGuide

Case 1, your server is nothing more than a regular file server. In this case open up regedit (Start > Run > "regedit" {return}), and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ System \ CurrentControlSet \ Services \ LanManServer \ Parameter \ RequireSecuritySignature, and set it's value to "0".

Case 2, your server is also a Domain Controller. In which case you need to open the DC's Security Policy (Administrative Tools > Domain Controller Security Policy). Navigate to Local Policies > Security Options, and disable "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)" & "Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (if client agrees)". Reboot your sever, and you should be good to go.

Recover your GMail password via text message

Just after Gmail get rid of its beta label introduce a another way to retrieve your forgotten Gmail password via your mobile. It is not a WOW thing but it is pretty much covering all the possible ways to give the maximum to GMail user.

I think Mobile is one of the coolest device you can name. There are more mobile users than any other user base. So any cool product should have options to access and control to the application from a mobile phone.

This is what GMail team has to say out this feature.

"Even the best of us forget our passwords from time to time. In fact, recovering passwords is one of the top reasons people visit the Gmail Help Center. To help with these situations, we recently added the ability to recover your password via text message.

To turn this on for your account, just sign in, select 'Change Password Recovery Options,' enter your cell phone number and click 'Save.'

Next time you forget your password, enter your username on the password-assistance page, and Google will text you a recovery code. No need to check another email account or even leave the page.

In general, it's a good idea to add as many password recovery options to your Google Account as possible, like a secondary email address and security question. And don't forget to keep them up-to-date."

FireFox 3.5 Still I can see your saved passwords

These are couple of tricks you can play with if you are luck you can see your friends saved password in FireFox (even in FireFox 3.5). I do not think it is just a security issue but if your computer is shared with others it can be. However, there ways to stop this.

Open up the FireFox, go to Tools then click on Options and under security click Saved Password button. Window will pop up with all the saved password in FireFox. Still you cannot see the password. There is a button called Show Passwords at the bottom of the window. Click on that and you can see the URL, user name and password. Do you need anything else?
This is in default settings. So how many of you use a master password for FireFox? I am sure you might have done save password in your FireFox most of the time. If so apply a master password so other will not have access to your saved password list.

This is quite simple but other who have access to your computer can grab your password for facebook, hotmail, gmail or any other account easily. This works for pretty much all the FireFox versions without any problem.

Cannot edit Outlook 2003 signature file

Are you using Outlook 2003 with Windows Vista and trying to edit your signature using Advanced Edit? Then you might be come cross this error message.

cannot open the file Extension H(.) file

That does not explain much but the solutions for this error is quite simple.

In Windows Vista, go to Control Panel (Classic Mode) and go to default programs. Select Associate file type or protocol with a program and scroll down to .htm and click Change Program select Word 2003.

This will solve the problem.

There is a longer version for this as well (Not Recomended). You can manually change the signature file from the signature folder. Default location (Users > > App Data > Microsoft > Signature)
select the file and open with Word and do the editing you want and Save it. If Outlook is open the files would be read only so better to close outlook before editing the file.

Out of the Box Operating System

Operating System(OS) or do you prefer call it Windows, Mac OS, Linux or Unix. When you think in terms of the basic concept and the functionality it is pretty much the same. Only the brand, price, compatibility and interface change from OS to OS. Google Chrome OS is suppose to be release in 2010. It should be designed out of the box. That does not mean that you should not able to do what we do with a OS with Chrome OS.

Base on the Google products (Chrome Browser, Gmail, Docs, Excel, Calender and etc..) we can do a wild guess that how Chrome OS going to be. I would like to see a OS like this.

There will be Files but not Folders - Folders will be replaced by labels that will give more flexibility over the managing your files and quicker search.

Do you really need a start button but a search enabled (drop down menu with options) command line will be there.

Interface will be quite similar to Google Chrome web browser that will give much power on connecting to web applications faster and securely. Chrome browser is not supporting Ad-ons and tool bars. We can hope that Chrome OS would be pretty much same that it would not support many of the applications we use today.

Offline and Online versions will be available for all the applications. So you will be able to do changes updates and stuff in your documents and when you connect to Internet it will be sync with the servers (Google server).

Files sharing would be across Internet. Just like in Google Docs. Between the computers it would be base on the invitations. So, you do not really need to worry about the IP address network settings and so on.

Connecting to the Internet should be really easy. Should be able to do the configurations by it self. Only the user name and password for the router or modem would be required.

One of the dream and cool feature would be to have two levels of log in. One to log into the local machine. Another just like you log into Google Account (Online). When you log into the local machine it will have all the offline content for that account and when you log into the online account it will add all the account settings to the offline version... In that way you will get to see the same files and settings from any computer that is connect to Internet. Remote computer is not that user friendly.

And will there be Google AdSense Ads on Google Chrome OS? That would be interesting to know.

What else or how you would like to get Google Chrome OS?

Introducing the Google Chrome OS

Google has officially announced the Google Chrome Operating System to be launched in mid 2010. Their main attempt is to re-think what operating systems should be as most of the OS available in market is designed in an era where there was no web.

Previously Microsoft had it competition with Google in Internet mainly search engine. But now it will be extend to operating system level where Microsoft is dominating at the movement. It will always be a challenge as we did not see major change in the concept of the operating systems we are using at the movement and first operating system. It will the time to re think for all the current OS to compete with new Google Chrome OS.

Speed, Simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS.

" Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform "

What you think about Google Chrome OS? How it is going to be?

Gmail leaves beta, launches "Back to Beta" Labs feature

Gmail has been in BETA version for five long years and finally they decide to take the BETA off not only from GMail but from Google Apps - Calender, Docs and GTalk. They have given you a option in GMails labs to leave GMail Beta label enable if you feel something missing after removing the BETA.

This is what Gmail says about this....

However, we realize that after five years, this leaves some of you wrestling with some tough questions. How will you ever get used to using Gmail without that familiar grey "BETA" text greeting you when you log in everyday? What example will you cite the next time you make an Internet joke about perpetual betas? Don't despair... for those of you long-time Gmail-ers who might feel some separation anxiety, we've got a solution. Just go to Settings, click on Labs, turn on "Back to Beta," and it'll be like Gmail never left beta at all.

We have been talking about couple of simple approaches to save money from day to day spending without adding extra stress. They are
  • Simple Budget
  • Achievable Short and long Term Goals for Saving Money

You can find gifts cards in any large retail shop. Even now you can find Visa gift cards similar to Credit cards where you can use any where that accept credit cards.

Normally you will shop in the same retail shop in your area. So when you go through your previous months expenses you can get a rough idea about how much you have spent on each shop. FireFox 3.5 Tweaks

Everyone is excited about FireFox 3.5. Even though you cannot see major change from outside they have worked hard to get thing in real shape by making it really faster and add some missing items from FireFox3.0.

Google Chrome is giving the maximum area for the web page than any other web browser. You can get a similar web browsing experience from FireFox3.5.

Right click on the Toolbar and select Customize and you can drag and drop all the components from other toolbars (Navigation Toolbar and Bookmark Toolbar) to the first tool bar. Then you can go to View and then to Tools bars and un-select Navigation Toolbar and Bookmark Toolbar.I would like to make the status bar disappear as well but it would be a bad idea as you cannot see the links where they heading to before you click.

DownloadSquad has come up with a cool FireFox3.5 Tweak that will keep your FireFox open even after the last tab was close.

Type about:config into the location bar and you will get a warning and always you click on I'll be careful I promise! and you will get all the FireFox configuration settings there. Copy and paste browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab on Filter and double click on browser.tabs.closeWindowWithLastTab to make it false. Your FireFox will not close just because you close your last tab.

Another feature of FireFox3.5 is that it allows you to move your Tabs between FireFox windows.

Hope you are enjoying FireFox3.5 and you are always welcome to share your FireFox3.5 tweaks with us.

Google Ads In the middle of Blogger Post

Google AdSense Ads in the middle of the blogger post. You may already know that Blogger Blog dose not support Google AdSense Ads in the middle of the post. Therefore you need to apply a little hack to the blogger template. In previous post we have gone through a bit complicated method.

Before we start applying the hack make sure you backup your blogger template.

Go to Layout and then to Edit HTML you will find a link to Download Full Template. Click on the link to download the template back up and save it in a secure place.

Another simple method I use to back up the Blogger template is to check the Expand Widget Templates and then copy the whole HTML code in the box to Notepad and save it in a secure place.

After backup blogger template you have to enable Google Ads between posts.

Go to Layout and then to Page Element and click the edit link on the Blog Posts element. Check Show Ads Between Post check box. Then configure inline Ads that suits your template. (What colour combinations are best for my site?).

Main reason to enable this feature is to get the blogger post compatible AdSense to code. Normal AdSense code does not work in the middle of the blogger post as Blogger post body dose not support Java Scripts.

Step by step guide to add Google AdSense Ads in the middle of the blogger post.

Go to Layout and then to Edit HTML and check the Expand Widget Templates.

Search the following code line in the HTML. (I would use Google Chrome to Search (CTR+F) this HTML code as it search inside the text box)

<data:post.body/>

Copy and paste the following code just before the above code line.
<div style='clear:both; float:right;  margin-left:5px;'>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<!-- Your AdSense code here -->
<b:if cond='data:post.includeAd'>
<data:adEnd/>
<data:adCode/>
<data:adStart/>
</b:if>
</b:if>
</div>

Save Template and check out your blog and the Google Ads Should be display inside the blog post.

PS: I forgot to tell you that I have add a extra line that will not display any adds when you are in the home page. It only display the ads when you are in the Post page. If you would like to show adds on the home page you can use the following chord.

<div style='clear:both; float:right; margin-left:5px;'>
<!-- Your AdSense code here -->
<b:if cond='data:post.includeAd'>
<data:adEnd/>
<data:adCode/>
<data:adStart/>
</b:if>
</div>

Update:
How to remove the Adsense Ads just after the post.
When you enable Ads after the post from Blogger it will show ads in the middle of the post as well at the end of the post. Find the followinf code in the Edit Html ( Layout > Edit Html > Check Expand Widget Template check box)

<b:include data='post' name='post'/>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<b:include data='post' name='comments'/>
</b:if>
<b:if cond='data:post.includeAd'>
<data:adEnd/>
<data:adCode/>
<data:adStart/>
</b:if>
<b:if cond='data:post.trackLatency'>
<data:post.latencyJs/>
</b:if>
</b:loop>
<data:adEnd/>
</div>

Remove or comment out the code that displaying the Ads.

<b:if cond='data:post.includeAd'>
<data:adEnd/>
<data:adCode/>
<data:adStart/>
</b:if>

You can basically replace the above code with the follwoing code.

<b:include data='post' name='post'/>
<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == &quot;item&quot;'>
<b:include data='post' name='comments'/>
</b:if>
<b:if cond='data:post.trackLatency'>
<data:post.latencyJs/>
</b:if>
</b:loop>
<data:adEnd/>
</div>

[SM] Is your bank & credit cards eat your money

Bank card and the credit cards are more convenient. You do not have to carry bundles of money to the shops or when you travel. In a way it provide security to your money while it opens up security issue. How these money cards can effect your savings?

I would call it a magic card. Swipe the card and enter the secret code or signature and if they match you can get the products or services that you want. Yes this magic only works base on how much power you have on your card.

How these bank and credit cards can eat your money? First of all you have no idea about the account balance or how much credit you have on your card. When ever you want something you will just swipe your card and get it. Until there are not enough credit on your card. Unless you check the balance daily which most of us do not do only time you will notice the balance is when you get the monthly statement. You do not have control over what you spend.

If you use notes and currency you have a clear idea about what you have and how much you are spending. You will think twice before you spend.

So do we have to go one step back and try to use notes and coins again. I do not think so. It is not that convenient. I know you do not want to miss the bonus point that credit cards gives you. Do you?

We have experimented couple of simple steps to effectively use bank card and credit cards effectively and wisely.
  • Check credit card balance and Bank account balance daily note it down on a sticky note.
  • Use a different bank account (dose not have a bank card but only have Internet banking access) for savings and transfer the amount you are planing to save.
  • Use different accounts for different purposes. (Additional cards should not cost you extra)
  • Choose credit cards that has less charges and more bonus points.
  • Keep a card that does not have much credit on it. (Specially Friday and Saturday nights)
This is couple of simple things you can follow to save little bit extra money by stooping extra spending you do without a good reason. We will continue discussing these money saving hacks and tricks in more details ....

Gmail Labels: drag and drop, hiding, and more

Most of the Gmail user might have experienced the cool message when they sign up to Gmail. Whats it all about?
Gmail have given you full control over the labels (Even with standard labels). You can hide whatever the label you do not use and bring up the labels that you use frequently. Isn't is giving another way to tweak your inbox and manage 100s and 1000s of emails that hit your inbox everyday.

This is what Gmail blog says about this new feature...

1) New location for labels
You'll notice your labels in a new location on the left of your inbox (or on the right, for those of you using the Arabic, Hebrew, or Urdu versions of Gmail). Instead of having their own section, your labels are now above your chat list, grouped together with Inbox, Drafts, Chats and other system labels.

2) Label hiding and showing
You now have control over which of your labels show. We've done our best to get you started by automatically showing the labels you use most and hiding the rest. Label hiding is my favorite new feature, since it saves me from having to look through labels I rarely use. If I ever need to reach any of my old labels, I just click the "more" link.
3) Drag and drop
You can now drag messages into labels, just like you can with folders. This does the exact same thing as "Move to" -- it labels and archives in one step.
