Facebook bought drop.io - File sharing will be the next Facebook feature

Facebook number one social networking website bought drop.io and closing down file sharing service by 15th of December. Facebook is really good at sharing picture but not the media files. This will make them strong in real time file sharing as well.

drop.io blog announced that most their service and assets including Sam Lessin were bought by Facebook.

"Today, we’re proud to announce that we’ve struck a deal with Facebook. What this means is that Facebook has bought most of drop.io’s technology and assets, and Sam Lessin is moving to Facebook."

In the coming weeks, drop.in will be winding down the their service. As of this week, people will no longer be able to create new free drops, but you’ll be able to download content from existing drops until Dec. 15. Paid user accounts will still be available through Dec. 15 and paid users will be able to continue using the service normally. After Dec. 15, paid accounts will be discontinued as well.

Please download your information before Dec. 15 – they plan to delete it after that time. No user data or content will be transferred to Facebook.

Soon you will be able to experience similar services from Facebook. We are still not sure is it going to be a free service or a paid service or what exactly Facebook plans with drop.io

HP Slate 500 Windows 7 business tablet

Long waited HP Slate 500 Windows 7 is releasing on Friday and you can already shop it on hp site for $799.00. It will be a better solutions for business people who are on the run than a iPad.

Running on Windows 7 is a big plus point as most of the corporate systems are running on Windows and this will be compatible with all the tools that are required without any hacks. You won't have to jail break HP Slate 500 to install softwares that you need. It is running as a normal computer.

USB2.0 port is another plus point as you can connect other devices (mobile, camera, external hard driver, flash drives, external CD/DVD R/RW drive and etc) on the go. I found it is really annoying to transfer files to iPad as every time I need to run to a computer installed with iTunes.

2 GB RAM and 2 front and rare cameras is another plus points for HP Slate 500. i think HP has done a better job. Only minus point I see in it is the 5+ battery life. As this is not a device to use for longer hours it won't be a real big issue.

Apple white iPhone 4 Conspiracy

White is the colour that goes with Apple products. Mac computers and equipments are in white. Some argued as a plus point while other didn't like it. For me colour is not a problem. However, it seems like Apple is having problems releasing white iPhone 4 even though they advertise it in the iPhone 4 gallery.
Apple even removed the white iPhone 4 from the Apple store but still you can see it in the iphone gallery. There were rumors that Apple is going to launch long waited white iPhone 4, but it seems like it is not going to happened soon.

Some of the reasons that might cause the delay

sensor issues
light leaks
problems bonding the color to the glass
inability to match the home button to the faceplate

Is there a link between the reason news; Chinese iPhone factory workers getting sick? May be or may be not. However, there is a possibility that this is a part of Apples marketing strategy. Once the iPhone 4 (black) sells are reduced they will introduce the white iPhone 4 with upgrades.

Then to close the call app and go back you have to make a call and end it.

It dose not give access to any other application. It is seems like iPhone is having passcode glitches more often. They have already foxed two bugs related to pass code this year.

Is Apple iPhone make Chinese workers sick?

ABC News reports "Workers in southern China, who say they were assembling Apple laptops and iPhones, have become seriously ill after using a dangerous chemical. Is it really Apple product causing the sickness or Apple is to be blamed for this?

"At first the symptoms were pretty obvious. My hands were numb. I could hardly walk or run," one woman told the ABC.

"I think they knew it was poisonous to human bodies but if they had used another chemical our output would not have increased," another woman said.

"By using n-hexane, it was much more efficient".

"Our company mainly produces the touch screens for mobile phones. Our main client is Apple," one worker said.

Above is some of the statements from sick workers who is directing their fingers at Apple but I think it is not really a Apple fault but the factories. We cannot expect these chemicals to be human friendly and exposing to them for longer period of time will cause similar problems and no one can point fingers at Apple. At the movement Apple is making news and if something related to Apple is definitely going to be hot.

So far no-one has reported sick using iPhone or any Apple product and I think it is mainly because of the health and safety issues in the factory and may be Apple might have to be really strict on their policies when outsourcing.

Apple is yet to comment on this issue and proper investigation might be required. It is safe to use your iPhone or buy a new one.

12 Year Old make money using Firefox flaw

The security researcher who found and reported this critical buffer overflow and memory corruption vulnerability in Mozilla’s Firefox browser is none other than Alex Miller, a 12-year-old boy who earned a $3,000 bounty for his discovery.

According to the San Jose Mercury News, Miller (right) was motivated to search for Firefox security holes after Mozilla increased its bug bounty from $500 to $3,000.

Isn't that easy way to make money online? If you are good at testing softwares this might be a better way to make couple of thousands dollars.

2012 End of Windows 7: Time for Windows 8

Microsoft is planning to release then next version of Windows (Windows 8) in two years time. Windows 7 is the most successfulness OS they have released so far. (Redmond gang has sold 240 million licenses of Windows 7 withing a year.) Microsoft is working on the next version of Windows, the blog says in Dutch, but it will be about two years before Windows 8 is on the market. CNET manage to get a screen shot of it before it disappear.

Let's look into something totally different from computer hacks tricks and tweaks. How I really lost 17Kgs (37 Pounds) in one month. Who is the enemy?

Salt, Sugar and artificial products are the worst when it comes to your health. They basically help you to gain weight in a unhealthy manner. First step is to get ride of the products that contains either salt, sugar or any artificial elements.

Bad news is that 90% of the product you get in the super market contains one of these elements, even though they claim to be fat free, sugar free or any healthy slogans.

If you seriously want to loose weight then you have to eat and drink products that dose not contains sugar, salt or any artificial stuff. Basically you need to avoid processed food.

Then what you can eat.

Simple go for any natural food you can find around. Fresh and seasonal vegetables, fruits, nuts, grains and water. Believe me if you eat them regularly and variety of them you will get all the nutritions you required.

Isn't that great!!

Yes it is. Amazingly if you really want to loose weight in one month just like me you need to stop having dairy and meat as well. Yes. basically the animal products. It is amazing the amount of energy you get without using any of animal products.

It seems like it only added unhealthy stuff to my life. As soon as I gave up all the animal products and processes food from my life things turn out to be better.

If you think that you need to eat animal products to get all the nutritional your body need, I think it is a myth. I did couple of full check ups and it turn out to be perfect and healthy.

Then you need to add 20 minute exercise to your life. Walking or running will do the job. So, you don't have to waster hours and hours for work outs.

Who said Blackberry Can't Do it

I am not a big fan of RIM Blackberry but I have used most of the blackberry models and people love it because of couple reasons, specially the corporate users.
1. Easy use of the keyboard - not a touch scree key board but a actual key board.
2. Easy access to corporate emails and docs on the go.
On top of that most mobile service providers provide the best data and phone package for black berry phone that your business cannot resists. Today I am not posting about how black berry is better than Apple iPhone or HTC desire but their new Blackberry 6 OS, new OS that make it easier.

I think RIM Blackberry should target the corporate users and provide them easy and smooth experience to access emails, email attachments, documents and more importantly to manage the contacts. Application market should not be a big issue for them as only thing they should provide is best standard programs for their users.

In Blackberry OS 6 they have added the following key features.

* Tabbed Browsing - I think it is awesome feature that will improve the mobile web browsing as you can always open multiple web pages. You know how business people work.

* Easy Connect to Social Network - Social networking is a major part of todays business and it is a good move to address this issue in Blackberry OS 6.

* It seems like they have improved the interface and start up experience lot in make it more user friendly.

I personally like Windows 7 than Windows Vista or Windows XP. It is stable and running smooth on PCs. however, it seems like there are some issues to be resolved regarding the tablet PCs (Touch Screen)

“Issue 1 - You run an instance of a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application on a Tablet PC that is running Windows 7.

You use external digitizer to ink in the instance of the application.

You unplug and then plug the external digitizer into a different USB port while the application runs.

In this scenario, the external digitizer does not ink in the same instance of the WPF application.

Issue 2 - The pointer does not move to where you touch after you unplug and then plug a digitizer of an external touch monitor into a different USB port on a Tablet PC that is running Windows 7.

Issue 3 - The logon screen does not display the touch keyboard icon after you wake from sleep mode a Tablet PC that is running Windows 7.”

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will mainly focus on fixing touch screen related issues rather than adding new features.

As usual Steve Jobs makes this as a good opportunity to put down its competitors (Google and RIM) and we can see some replies from RIM Co-CEO (Jim Balsillie) and Google Android Chief (Andy Rubin). Lets see how big kids argue on "who has the best toy?"

Tell Google Where You are : More transparency and control over location

Google likes challenges in automating and give you the most relevant information you requited. Identifying your current location is the most important factor. We are not only googling to find out the definitions, code example, how to articles, but nice restaurant, shop to buy a gift and so on. If Google is not detecting your location accurately then you have options to correct it and get a better results.

At other times, you may want to change your location to explore information relevant to another area. The location you set can be as specific as a particular zip code or as general as an entire country, but more specific settings generally lead to better search results."

Google detect your location by IP address or the Google Toolbar My Location feature. If your internet service provider is in another location and they haven't give your a public IP address you might notice that your current location is coming up as your service providers location, not yours.

If you use Google to find places around you or planning your holiday and need to find out the shops and restaurants before you go there, this will be a good option to use.

iPhone 4 Glass Breaks, Cracks More Than iPhone 3GS

iPhone 4G is like Microsoft Vista, never had a break. Even though Apple try to give the best mobile experience to its customers through iPhone 4G major issues are reported time to time.

I think Apple need to address these issue in iPhone 4GS. You should not forget that phone come with user friendly interface and it rarely crash and there are thousands of cool features. Apple should not loose the quality of the product because of the competition.

Microsoft unleashed Windows Mobile 7 (WM7) to fight against the dominant Apple iPhone and Google Android market. It seems like Microsoft has take the right and brave decision to jump in to the smart phone market after they miss the market share. They took another brave decision to give stage to Stephen Fry.

Stephen Fry is an actor and writer. More than that he is one of the biggest Apple fanboy influence more than 1.8 million followers through twitter. Microsoft gave him the new windows mobile phone for a week to use and tell his honest opinion to his twitter followers. Guess what he loves the phone.

HTC launch the Windows Phone 7 series and soon will release the jail break for the WP7. I found interesting post and screenshots that claims of getting the "file explorer :) and a VERY nice task manager". That might be a good start for jail breaking WP7.

Windows Phone 7 Running on HTC HD2

HTC HD2 is originally running Windows Mobile 6.5 (WM6.5). However this video from pocketnowvideo shows that it is running Windows Phone 7. In last post we covered the HTC HD2 hack that will allow you to install Android. It seems like HTC HD 2 can run Windows mobile 6.5 and Windows Phone 7 and Android.


HTC HD2 hack to run Windows Phone 7 is from CotullaCode and this is on experimental level. It will be amazing if it can do multi boot HTC HD2 and switch in between the three operating systems.

Windows 2019

Simply a vision and a future prediction of your life in 2019. I think this is something the present technology should heading at. We talked about 6th Sense last time and ideal concept that need to be developed. Mean time there are down side of it as well. As humans we will use less human capabilities which will eventually make us slaves of technology and highly depend on it.

If you look at it, we have 90% of the technology that required. Mainly we need to integrate everything together so we can get the maximum out of it. Compatibility, flexibility will be great advantage in such system (Microsoft 2019). However I think it is a open game and any big company can jump in with a solutions like this.

However, if you look at it from person who really work with computers ( Developers, IT guys ) you alway look at the performances and flexibility. This is the basic option and you have three more options. This sounds like a basic laptop. Running Windows 7 OS gives you flexibility apply all the hacks tricks and tweaks to get your work done. However, I am sure that this won't be a good tool if you plan to do programming for long hours. I notice that it is unconformable to stay long hours in front of small screens (Netbooks).

Question still remain unanswered. Will the tablet PC an kill the laptop market.

Cannot Attach a file to an email in iPad

This is another small but stupid limitations in iPad. This is the Apple way and it is really working for Apple and nobody really worry about it or complain about it. If someone complain about it they he/she is a wired person. Anyways lets see the quick solutions to email attachment problem in iPad until Apple provide a upgrade.
If you receive a email with an attachment then you can forward the message with or without the Attachment. So you can attach a file and send a email from your MAC Computer or even Windows computer to iPad and then you will be able to add and send the email attachment from your iPad. This is a bit funny solution just like one we provided for the iPhone SMS forwarding problem we had initially.

Apple has a strong App Community, which can provide any kind of solution for the Apple limitations. GoodReader is a better solutions for email attachment problem as well as viewing Windows files and any large PDFs without any problem.

Is you website touch screen friendly? Put it in to the test

We are slowly moving into Tablet PCs (iPads). So, you need to make your websites touch screen friendly. If you use Windowx XP from a Tablet PC or iPad ( Remote Desktop) you will see how hard it is to operate it from touch screen. How you can make your website ready for tablet PCs. Best place to look for some guide lines are the excising touch screen friendly operations systems: Android, Apple OS for iphone, ipad and Windows 7. Using similar effects to the web will automatically makes your website touch screen friendly.

Give enough space - If it is a mouse pointer it can click, select small buttons, links. You need more space and area for a touch. It is obviously good to have a larger buttons and have little bit more space around them ( Padding ). Even with the links you can do a similar trick but you might have already noticed that it is bit hard to click on the text links than buttons. So, give simple and nice buttons to navigate through your website.

Option to increase the Font size would be another effective way to make it touch screen friendly. However, most of the touch screen OS gives zoom in and zoom out functionality with fancy multi touch.

Touch Screen ready Web Forms - Web forms is another area that required some alternations. Again you have to use bigger web form elements (Text boxes, drop down-lists and etc ) in order to make it easy to touch and select each field. Get rid of the boring default web forms and pimp it to be filled and submit easily on touch pads.

Make sue you do not allow users to fill all the unnecessary information. Make your form short and simple. (Not only effective in touch screen). People hate typing in touch screen and yes they are too lazy and worried to fill out lot of personal information. 

Loading time and the size of the web page one of the primary issue with the mobile devices. Most of the devices come with expensive data plans and have a very limited download limit. However, this is not something new. It is been a good webmaster practice to some up with simple website that loads fast. Of course Google loves it as well and primary point when it comes to Search Engine Optimisation.

Browser Compatibility ( New Challenges ) webmasters nightmare. Each web browser has different characteristics and creating a website to work perfectly on each browser need lots of skills and patience. I think Tablet PC and iPad add more challenges. For example iPad dose not have a flash player and Android cannot run Java Vitual Machine very well. Now these limitations need to be considered before design or redesign your website.

Width and height of the page - Most of the modern tablet PCs have high resolutions screens. However it will be easy to have simple pages that dose not have to scroll sideways.

Is it necessary to built a separate tablet version? .mobi was started to have a mobile version of your website and it is not really active at the movement. No one bother to use the .mobi domain names, instead they use mydomain.com/mobile, mydomainname.com/m or m.mydomainname.com. I don’t think even with the tablet PCs .mobi will not be live. If you really have a website that is targeted big computer screen or flash base website you may require to have a new area for tablet PC users. It is not necessary as tablet PC s support most of the websites options pretty well. If you really needed and decide to go for separate version for tablet PCs I would recommend to go for application.


Test you site on Tablet PC and check how easy to navigate and how well your website respond to the touch. Something that webmaster need to consider building a website. Feel free to share your thoughts ideas and comments are welcome. 

Google going after Blind Type

Tablet PCs, Mobile computing and touch screens going to be a really hot topic in the future. Already companies preparing for it. Google has acquired a company called BlindType. Blind type develops a smart touch screen keyboard that is capable of correcting any wrong word you type on the screen. Lets see how it works.
Basically it took me sometimes to understand what it really dose and what is sos special. We see pretty smart keyboard in iphone, ipad and Android OS phones, which has the auto correction capabilities.

Blind Type is not mainly focus on the spelling mistakes that you do. If you have been using a mobile phone keyboard you know how many times you press the wrong key. BlindType able to catch what you type and convert it to a meaningful words. I know you are lost. Take couple of minutes and watch the video.
