Amazing domain name for your business

We have discussed about domain names so many times in our previous posts. Yep still, I would like to ad something to that list. Everyone would love to have a cool domain name for his or her business. Good domain name is one of the key to successful online business. Especially for small and medium size businesses as they do not get much publicity over other media. So, how you can get a killer domain name for your business?

All the three letter domain names are taken. Dictionary-word domain names are registered. Therefore, are you left with all the bad domain names? I don’t think so.
I was worried about this for sometimes. If you are looking to make money from a domain name without developing then it is a worry. However, if you are looking a domain name for your business you do not have to.

Why? How many three-letter domain names are leads to successful business? If they are effective then every single three-letter domain name should be a great online business.

Because, for a business you need a domain name that can be remembered and spell easily. Even after all these killer domain names are taken, many amazing websites have been developed. For example youtube, amazon, ebay, twitter, dig and there are many more.

To have a good domain name you need to be bit creative and choose a cute short name, which will be remembered in peoples mind.

Time to Clean up Registry and Temp Files

I would love when my computer run faster and smoother. Two major reason why your computer get too slow over time is the temporary files and registry. Cleaning up the mess with all these unwanted files and registry records will make your computer run faster and smother.

Simple and free tool I use to do this is called CCLeaner.I might have mentioned about this in previous post but I would like to do a quick reminder as I know you are too lazy to go into the old posts.

If you have not used it, CCLeaner is a pretty cool software that cleans up all the temporary files
registry conflicts for free. Down load CCleander.

New Template Designer for Blogger Blogs

There is a cold war between Wordpress and Blogger. In the blogging world Wordpress hold more corporate and professional bloggers while blogger is more like a simple play ground. That is simply because Wordpress give more flexibility to customize as you want and you can have it in your own web hosting. But for blogger you can only have limited customizations and you have to stick with Google hosting. Anyway this is some of the experiment that Blogger blogs doing to add more flexibility to its template designing.

Now with bloger you can have more complex and really cool templates. Best part is that only thing you should have is good artistic mind and know how to click the right place. Previously Blogger allow us to add new pages to blogger blogs without much problems.

First you should log into the draft blogger. Then choose the blog you want to jazz it up and click on the Layout tab. Now click the Temaplte Designer tab and you will be taken to a new black page where you will have full flexibilty to customize your blogger template.

I will leave it you to decide which template and colour combinations that you going to use. But one more important thing. Remember to add Google Analytic code and other code you used in your old template as they may disappear when you change the template. Is it another good reason to stick with Blogger.

GMail Detecting suspicious account activity

You may remember that a while back GMail launched remote sign out and information about recent account activity to help you understand and manage your account usage. This information is still at the bottom of your inbox. Now, if it looks like something unusual is going on with your account, GMail will also alert you by posting a warning message saying, "Warning: We believe your account was last accessed from…" along with the geographic region that we can best associate with the access.

To determine when to display this message, our automated system matches the relevant IP address, logged per the Gmail privacy policy, to a broad geographical location. While we don't have the capability to determine the specific location from which an account is accessed, a login appearing to come from one country and occurring a few hours after a login from another country may trigger an alert.

Mobile Phone and Battery Life

In the mobile world there are lot of developments has been happening since it started. I would say modern mobile phone is quite high tech comparing to the old day phones. However, there is one thing that I am worried about, which is battery life.

It does not matter what you can really do with your mobile phone. When the battery is dead, you are helpless. If there is no place to get it charge, none of the great facilities can be used.
Battery lifetime is a critical factor in mobility. It seems like from the start we tried to improve the battery life but did not look for an alternative. Something likes a self-charging battery or battery that does not require charging at all.
I think that would be the biggest challenge in mobility. Need of such a power source for your mobile equipments when you are away from home.
Yester day I came across this cool power source “The Bloom Box”: a power plant for the home. Small box can fulfil the general power need for a home. May be we need to figure out a way to generate power for the mobile devices.
I think that is quite needed rather than trying to improve the other features that consume more power.

Better controls for buzz in your inbox

I mentioned that Google AdSense ads started to display in Google Buzz when you add your blog to automatically buzz. Today I have come a cross couple of tips in Gmail Blog about Buzz.

1) Settings to control what gets sent to your inbox
From the Buzz tab of Gmail Settings, you’ll be able to choose whether the following buzz items get sent to your inbox:
Comments on your posts
Comments on posts after you comment on them
Comments on posts after you are @replied on them

2) Explanations for why posts get sent to your inbox and an easy-to-find “Mute” link
You'll see a new message at the top of each post in your inbox that explains why it’s there: someone commented on your post, you were @replied, etc. We’ve also added an easy-to-find “mute” link that will stop subsequent comments from bringing the conversation back to your inbox

EBooks vs. Paper Books

Reading books, news papers can be a daily task, hobby or for educational purpose. Anyway we are doing some sort of reading every day. It is time to draw line between paper base books and news and ebooks, eNews papers. Technology point of view we have come to a stage where we can move all over books and news papers to electronic media. However, that did not made the paper base books history.

Both the eBooks and paper books are our best friends because it allows us to read and acquire knowledge. Since our childhood we have seen number of paper books lying in our study room and shelves. Paper books are quite heavy in weight and they also require space in our book shelf whereas eBooks are the digital form of books that are adjustable inside your PC, laptop, tablet or even in your smart phone.

They don’t require any extra space in your room and hence, they are space consuming. EBooks are also known as paper consuming books because it helps in saving paper.
We are aware about the present situation of our mother earth and hence, we can understand the value of tresses that are cutting down for making papers. It is said that 20 tresses are cut down for making 5 newspapers.

When it comes to ebooks pdf is the simplest and commonly used ebook format. Main reason is the compatibility. It is works well in Windows, MAC OS, Unix, Linux or even in Android. Then you can start from the simplest format of digital ebooks, plain text (.txt), rich text format (rtf), hypertext (.htm, html), Amazon Kindle (.azw), Palm Media (.pdb) and many more. However, it paper mode it is only one format. That is paper and no compatibility issues.

Then you required some sort of device to read ebooks. It can be a computer, laptop, tablet or a digital ebook reader. There are many ebook readers in the market. Amazon Kindle, Sony ebook reader, iRiver are some of famous ebook readers. Where paper books you don’t have to get any devices as book it self is sufficient. What is going to be more cost effective? Ebooks or the paper base books?

Looking at the present condition of our mother land, we should adapt eBooks for our daily reading habits instead of paper books. EBooks can also be saved properly for longer time than the paper books. Paper books can be torn in the longer run but eBooks can be maintained with the same quality for years.

Thus, I would prefer and advise you too for using eBooks leaving the paper books. However, decision depends on the simplicity and cost effectiveness of the method. Environmental friendly might be the last factor that most of us may or may not consider.

Fast new windows in Gmail

I always had this problem as I needed to refer to old messages while I compose a new message. One option I had is to right click on the inbox and open it in new tab. Second is to save the new message as draft and look for the old message copy what you required and open back the graft. Now with this new fast Windows feature you have a better way to refer back to old emails while composing a new message.

here are a number of places you can pop up new windows in Gmail.
In chat, there's the little upward arrow in the title bar:

When writing a message, hold the "Shift" key while you click on the Compose Mail, Reply, Reply All or Forward links and you'll get a new window for your new message. (Holding the "Shift" key while typing the keyboard shortcut — in other words typing "C" "R" or "F" — has the same effect.)

When you're reading your mail, hold the "Shift" key while you click on a message to open the conversation in a new window. (Same holds true for the "Shift" key and the "o" or "Enter" shortcuts.)

If you're reading an email and want to save it for later, you can click the "New window" link in the upper-right hand corner of the conversation view:

Keep in mind that the popped out window does not outlive the closing of the original Gmail window, although we're working on a way to make that better. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make this work in Internet Explorer, so to see the speed-up, you'll need to be using Mozilla Firefox, Apple's Safari, or Google Chrome.

How to Copy or Move MS SQL Database

I was struggling and wasted couple of hours trying to move a MS SQL database to a new server. Reason was that I kept on getting some error messages that I really did not understand properly. Let us see how to copy a MS SQL database in couple of simple steps.

You can use Database Back Up and Restore function for this task without any problem. However, there are couple of error messages that you have to aware.

1. Back your database from the Original location (Server A)
2. Copy it to the new location (Server B)
3. Create a instant of a database in Server B and restore the backup copy that you took from server A

Yes, it is a quite simple process. Lets handle couple of error messages you might have to face while you trying to copy the database to new location.

Error Message: The backup set holds a backup of a database other than the existing database. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.SMo)

Solution: Go to Options page (Restore Database) and check the Overwrite the existing database option.

Error Message 02: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Directory lookup for the file failed with the operating system error 3(The System cannot find the path specified.) (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)

Solution: In the options Page (Restore Database) check the Restore the database files as: pane. If your new server is 64 bit it might still looking the files in Program Files folder but actually SQL is installed in Program File (x86). Select the correct path.

Error Message 03: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlError: Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)
Solution: Open the SQL Server Configuration Manager and restart the SQL Server.

Why internet keeps on disconnecting and extremely slow

Recently I noticed extremely slow internet connection and it keeps on disconnecting regularly. If you are experiencing such symptoms in your work or home network, you need to act fast.

Let us see the symptoms in details

• Internet speed is considerably slow
• Internet keeps on dropping and coming back
• When you visit a new website most of the time it says page cannot be found
• Web pages load without images and styles.
• Sometimes you might have to restart the router in order to get the internet back.
Ping command will take longer and frequent timeouts.

If you are experiencing any of these problems with your internet connection, please go through the following checklist.

First, check with your internet service provider whether there is a problem with the internet connection. You might able to check if there is any scheduled system maintenance going on with the service provider website or by calling them. If there is nothing wrong at their end, you have to move to the next step.

Check all the computers connected to the internet whether any of the machines using peer to peer, or torrent downloading programs as these programs can kill the connection speed.

If that is not the case, you might have to check each machine for send and receive packets. In windows machines you can simply check that in Local Area connection. Alternatively, you can use this command in command prompt to check both sent and receive bytes and packets.

If you notice large numbers in send and receive packets without internet activity then there might be virus or Trojan infection. In our case, couple of computers were infected with Trojans that killed the local area network.

You can use softwares like etherboy or wireshark to check the network statistics to understand which machines are sending more packets. However, if it is a small network you can simply remove one computer at time from the router and check the internet connection status-using ping command.

Anyway I would recommend to install Malwarebyte which is free for all your computers and scan them out.
