[Basic] Setup Java Enviroment Variables

Sometimes simplest things can become complicated if you loose your mind. This is the simplest way to add Environment Variable for javac to make it possible to run javac command from any of your folders. If it is not setup you will only able to compile (use javac method) inside the bin folder.

Right Click "My Computer"
Go to "Properties"
Go to "Advanced" tab
Click "Environment Variable" tab
under system variables select "path" variable and click edit button.

It will pop up a small window and only thing you need to do is to add full path to javac.exe file starting with a ; at the end of variable value field.

normally it would be like this
;C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_13\bin\

After updating remember to click on "OK" button and again on "OK"  button to take these new path variable effective.

[Error] Excel Crashes when selecting fonts

I have noticed a wired error when I try to change the fonts in Microsoft Excel. Excel get crashed and close it self when ever I change fonts or make fonts bold. Then I try same with Microsoft Word and result was same.

Problem caused by the default printer drivers. When I remove the default printer to another Excel, Word start working normally.

Solution: To reinstall the printer drivers.

You can easily think that the problem comes from word or excel and I completely uninsulated Microsoft office and install it again and again but nothing was changed.

[Basic] The Ping Command

Ping command is one of the effective ways to troble shoot network related problems. Ping basically checks whether the connection between network devices are properly comunicating. You can check the connections between computers or router to computer. Only thing you need
to identfy is the IP addresses of each devices in order to use PING command.

First you should know how to check the IP address of a computer and your router. First your computer must be connected to another device (router, modem)

In windows XP
Start > Run > type "cmd" and enter. It will open the command line.

In Windows Vista
Start > in Search type "cmd" and select the command link and click to open the command line.

Then in command line type "ipconfig"
and enter. It will give you a list of IP address.

IP Address 192.168.1.2 is the address of your computer.
Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 is the IP address of your router.

Next step is to PING 192.168.1.1 to check the connection between your computer and router.

Type ping 192.168.1.1 in the command line and if you get the result Packets sent 4, Received 4 and Lost 0, That means the connection between the router and the computer is working fine.

Then you can ping a website to check the Internet connection.
Type "ping www.google.com" in the command line. And if you get the same result as before that means the Internet connection is working as well.

If you have any kind of problem with the connection ping result will give some Lost packets and you need to trouble shoot the connection. Ping is a really simple but handy command to identify the network related problems.

[Proxy] What is Ktunnel.com?

Ktunnel.com is not a English website. Is it worth knowing what is Ktunnel.com? It is a quite simple free Proxy web site. There are coupled advertisements and pop-ups but it seems like quite nice.

How did I find it? It is quite unusual to find a non English web site. Ktunnel is breaking searched word on google.com related to computer and Internet.

Enjoy the Ktunnel.com free proxy when you have a restriction from your administrator.

Similar to the Recall feature in Outlook?

Official Gmail Blog: New in Labs: Undo Send

Gmail recently added UNDO sent feature. Very interesting!

But I wonder if this is similar to the recall feature in Outlook which can be cheated. i.e. The recipient can still read the email sent.

How to Play FLV (Flash Video) Files in Windows Media Player?

How to Play FLV (Flash Video) Files in Windows Media Player?

By default Windows Media Player (WMP) will not play flv and report that it does not have the correct codecs to play it.

There are two options (either of these two will work)

1) Downloading codecs package such as K-Lite . K-Lite is a tremendous codecs package that supports for various file formats such as 3gp, mp4 etc. Almost any movie format that you can think of or find on the internet, K-Lite will have a codec to play it. Installing the package will enable Windows Media Player to decode and play the file.

K-lite can be downloaded from here

2) Download a simple FLV plugin for Windows Media Player with no extra bells and whistles. The plugin is very lightweight and does exactly what it says - Plays FLV files and nothing extra.

PlayFLV plugin can be downloaded from here

[Hardware] EEE PC does not start

It was not a good time for me. I am getting all sort of hardware issues with the computers. All of a sudden I have notice my EEE PC does not start when the power button is pressed. Power light, Charging light and the wireless light is on but no hard drive light and screen is blank. Nothing much you can do after that.

There are couple of thing you can try.

1. Take the battery out of the EEE PC and press the power button for couple of seconds to drain all the power from the computer. And then try to connect AC and then switch it on.
a.) Removing battery
        b.) Unplug mains
c.) Press-and-hold the power button for 10 seconds
d.) Reinstall battery, plug in mains etc, then try again...

Follow the EEEUser ASUS EE PC Forum for more information.

Still if you do not have any luck. (In my case it did not)

2. Call the ASUS help line and you need to send the EEE PC to them and they will solve the problem. If your computer is under warranty the process will be 100% FREE. Also the service is quite good (in Australia).

[Google] View Google Calendar offline

Just like Gmail now you can use Google calender offline specially when you do not have a Internet connection.

Quoting from Gmail Official Blog

"To enable offline Calendar access, sign in to Google Calendar and look for the "Offline Beta" link in the upper right-hand corner of your account, next to your username. We've released this early and are still ironing out some kinks, so if you encounter any issues, be sure to let us know. If you access Calendar through the Premier or Education Editions of Google Apps, your domain administrator will first have to elect to turn on new features from the Domain Settings page of the Google Apps control panel."

[iGoogle] LetsChat on iGoogle...

This great news would be another good reason why you should stick to iGoogle or to transfer to iGoogle. If you are already using iGoogle you know that you can have access to your emails (Gmail), Calender and to many more useful information in one page. That page is iGoogle.

Recently Google has introduce chat option (just like in Gmail) to iGoogle page.  This is what Google says about chat feature in iGoogle page.

"It's worth noting that this feature may have some kinks, so we ask for your patience as we work through them. Here at Google, it's common practice for us to involve our users as early possible so we can make sure we get it right. We'll also be rolling this feature out slowly, so if you don't see it on your iGoogle page and you simply can't wait to check it out, feel free to opt in by going to www.google.com/ig/v2invite.

Currently, iGoogle chat is rolling out in English for our U.S. users. But don't worry, the feature is coming soon for other iGoogle supported languages and countries. You can check out ourHelp Center for more information on how it works, and as always, we are interested in hearing any feedback you have."

[Gmail] Multi-select attachments and progress bars

Now you can select multiple attachments at once in Gmail and attached it to your email. It will show the progress of each file ceparately. This is simple change but it makes life really easy when it comes to attaching couple of images or files from a folder.

This is what Gmail has to say about it.
"Today, we're making some changes to the way Gmail attachments work. If you want to send a few files from the same folder, simply hold down the Ctrl key (Cmd on OS X) and click on each file you want to attach to your message. You can also hold down the Shift key to select a continuous list of files. A definite time saver."
