Year 2009 - What is it? Countdown Begins.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

2009 is the named as the Year of the International Astronomy

The International Year of Astronomy is a year-long celebration of astronomy, taking place in 2009 to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the first recorded astronomical observations with a telescope by Galileo Galilei and the publication of Johannes Kepler's Astronomia nova in the 17th century. Checkout Google Storage Meter

Ever wondered how much data you have with Google?

Google has made it easier.

Visit

https://www.google.com/accounts/ManageStorage

Though, I don't think this is the complete view of ALL the data stored on Google.

e.g It doesn't show Google Search History, Google Docs, Blogger etc. WHY??

is Google trying to say that the data on these sites don't belong to me but to Google??

[Slax] Solve mounting USB hard drive

In previous posts I have mentioned the importance of Slax (LiveCD version of Linux) in situations when Windows crashed. You can easily retrieve your important files before your reinstall Windows.

When Slax auto detect External hard drives but it permission defaulted to read only. Slax will not allow you to change the file permission. You will not be able to copy important files to the external hard drive.

Following steps will fix the permission problem.

Open Slax Konsole (Terminal Control) - This is like the Windows command prompt
Type the following commands in

umount /mnt/sdc1
mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdc1 /mnt/sdc1 -o force

sometimes sdc1 might have to be changed to sdb1 sda1 depends on how Slax assigned your external hard drive.

Now you should be able to copy, rename, delete files from your external hard drive.

No iBoobs on iPhone

An application that allows iPhone users to wobble a pair of breasts has been rejected by Apple's application store, denying iPhone geeks the nearest thing to sex they'll get this holiday season.

The application was rejected on the grounds of "objectionable content", though with the caveat: "If you believe that you can make the necessary changes so that iBoobs does not violate the iPhone SDK Agreement we encourage you to do so."

iPhone Nano is coming!

Well Apple has not officially accepted or denied that they will be releasing iPhone Nano, which will be a cut down and a smaller version of iPhone but what would you say when www.iphonenano.com Redirects to Apple iPhone Site!!

There's also a pretty good chance that the iPhone nano will be available at Retails such as Walmart.

This will make it easier to purchase mobile phones and increase impulsive buyings.

Rest assured, CrazzyCool will be the first one to find out when Apple makes the announcement.

So stay tuned and watch this space...

P.s. Will there be an iPhone Shuffle?

[Problem] Unstyled View and Email Subcribers Dropped

I have transfered feed from Feedburner to feedproxy (Google). After that I have notice ouple of issuse with feed.

1. Total subscribers dropped down
2. Your Feed under the Optimize gives an error.

First problem is caused as email update was not sent to the email subcribers. So email subcribers are taken out of the total. So its link to the second problem.

But there is no clear soluton for the feed under the optimize in feedburner help group. At the movement I am trying to fix the second issue. Hopefully, first problem should solved.

Update: It was and internal error when I am tranfering from Feedburner to Google. It will take around 24 hours to see the results. You can always monitor the health of your feed by subscribing to FeedBulletin. You can find this in My feed page.

Links I have used so far...

14-MAY 2008: Our email delivery system did not poll some FeedBurner feeds for updates on 13-May; as a result emails were not delivered and email subscribers were not reported to FB subscriber totals for that date. We're investigating this issue.

UPDATE 12:00 CST: We restarted the polling process; starting now, any feed changes not yet delivered via email should be detected and delivered, albeit up to three days late, and from this point forward on your regularly scheduled window. We regret this error!

You may still see 0 email subscribers reported on your Analyze tab's Feed Stats view for Wednesday 5/14; this should be the last day with no reported email subscribers in this stretch. (Don't forget your subscribers didn't just up and disappear; they're still listed under Publicize > Email Subscriptions > Subscription Management.)

[Basic] Use FTP directly from Visual Studio

Develop a web site in Visual studio and upload it to servers will take extra time as well as create more errors to fix. Specially if you are having a shared server where you have only FTP and web interface to control your server. Simple solution is to create your .net website directly in your server using Visual studio 2008 Express edition via FTP.

First create a FTP account with full permission for your domain. You might need to take help from your web hosting company if you are having some problems because it depends on the server management software they use and the configurations. (Your serve should support ASP.NET)

After configuring your server and ready. Open up Visual Studio 2008 Program in your local machine. Normally you will get a window called " New Web Site" or you can get this from "File" and then click "New Web Site"

By default it will create the web site on your local machine.

You can change it from Location drop down menu to FTP and then you have to five the server name. (ftp://example.com or ftp://ftp.example.com)

Then it will take you to the login screen

Check "Login using passive mode" check box and it will ask you for the username and the password for the FTP server.

Give the user name and password you gave at the time of configuration and Visual Studio will create the environment for you to program.

How to change the Driver Letter and the Path

Changing the driver letter path and the letter did not change from windows XP to Windows Vista. If you are using large external hard drives USB memory sticks this will be handy. Sometimes when you connect hard drives to computers it get confuse and unable to display the driver letter.

Steps to add change the driver letter
(You can follow the same steps in Windows Vista and XP)

Go to Control Panel
Go to Administrative Tools
Go to Computer Management
Select Disk Management under Storage

It will show all the hard drive partitions and external Hard Drives. If it had problems assigning a letter you can manually give one by right click on the partition and by selecting

"Driver Letter and Path"

It will give options to Add, Change or Remove a driver letter. It is actually manually mounting hard drive in Windows.

Ronaldo is on iPhone Games!

The first truly great iPhone game is here!!

It's available right now on the App Store for $9.99

The gameplay itself starts very simply -- you control a little rolling guy called a Rolando by tilting the iPhone left or right. But bit by bit, Rolando adds more and more to the process -- with a swipe on the screen, your Rolando can jump, and there are things to move and press in the landscape, and you can find other Rolandos, and select multiple ones just by dragging a rectangle around them. And there are "royal spikey commandos" that will stick to things, and bombs and platforms, and shadowy bad guys to avoid, and a King and Prince to save, and, and, and... Things spiral into complexity pretty quickly, but Rolando never lets them get out of hand: the controls are flawless (there's always something you can hit or do to bring back whatever you're working on into focus, and by dragging two fingers on the screen, you can explore the levels to find a path to try), and, like the greatest platforming games, the difficulty curve lets you explore first and then excel later.

iPhone 3G finally unlocked by the Dev-Team!

iPhone 3G finally HACKED!

Well this has been a long time coming. It seems that the iPhone Dev-Team has finally done the impossible -- they've gone and unlocked the iPhone 3G. The hack isn't out yet (the team says they're shooting for a December 31st release), and it requires that you've got a baseband of 2.11.07 or earlier, but when it drops, the crew seems fairly confident it will result in freedom from carrier oppression. The team is packaging the app -- formerly codenamed "yellowsn0w" -- into a user-friendly app a la PwnageTool and QuickPwn. Of course, you know how this cat and mouse game goes by now, so don't be surprised when Jobs and company come calling with an update that adds toast making to the official menu, but breaks your breaks all over again.

Australian Web Filter Good or Bad?

Seven cities in Australia there were rallies yesterday to be against the government's
web filtering Scheme...It will slow Internet connection speed and accidental prevent access to the number of proper web sites.
Digital Liberty Coalition (DLC) planned to held these rallies monthly until march.. (news.com.au)

Having a web filter going to do any good to the people? Main idea of the web filter is to block unwanted web sites been exposed to a group of people. Who decide what is to be blocked or what is to be allowed. How efficient is it?

No matter what good or bad points it has I am pretty sure people will find a way to bypass it. It is always possible to do it.

Restart - Simplest Way to fix a Problem

Restart. I would say Restart is the simplest way to fix most of the computer related problems. Reason is most of the problems start when you use the computer for sometimes one or more programs will crash or done something wrong will end up as serious problems or popping up scary error messages. Slow down the computer, Programs not responding or even a blue screen might be possible. Simple restart will fix these problems.

Sometimes it will remain even after you restart specially if you had to pull of the plug and shut down the computer. That is simply because such shut down of a computer will not simply clear off the memory and it will not start fresh. Even after proper shut down it will not completely wiped out for couple seconds or for couple of minutes. So it is always leave your computer off for couple of seconds or minute before starting up again. If you had to pull the power off always better to do a proper shut down and start it again. It will eliminate most of the problems out of your computer.

Is it always safe to reboot? No, even though proper restart fix most of the problems there are situation where you should not restart your computer. specially if you think your computer is infected with a virus or any kind of malware it is not safe to restart. Some viruses or Trojans will get the initial trigger and give the best chance to properly installed. Like other programs need a good restart to configure and installed properly, viruses and Trojans need it too. If you feel like your computer is infected it is always good to install a good antivirus
and update it. Then reboot it in safe mod and do a full scan. There are situations where restart is not going to work.

Restart is not only solve computer problems. Even software problems will be solve. For example in Outlook sometimes emails will be stuck in outbox. Most of the time it can be solved by just closing the Outlook properly and starting it again.

Even this is relevant to humans. Small nap or good night sleep ill refresh you. You have been struggling solve a problem for hours and did not work out, but just after a small break you or a sleep you solve it. Take a break from any problem and come back to it. Much esier to fix it.

Installing an Operating System on Your USB

In my previous posts I have pointed out that it is really important to have Operating system in a CD (Live CD). USB is much easier than the CD. Sriram Sridharan posted step by step guide in his blog sriraminhell to install Linux version in to your USB flash drive.

Why it is important to have a OS installed in USB?

1. Portability - Not like a CD USB a flash drive is really small and you have high capacity so you will be able to have your files as well. Also, it is more reliable.

2. In a situation where your current OS is crashed you can retrieve the important files to your USB or another external hard drive.

3. Of course your can access any computer without cracking usernames or passwords. But do not do that as it is not ethical. Other hand it is impossible to stop your data been exposed or destroyed if you give access to hardware.

4. Recover Lost or fogotten passwords for your current OS.

This is a quite interesting post and can do many experiments base on it.

10 Most Searched for Gadgets this Christmas on MSN

It was interesting to find out which are 10 most hottest and searched gadgets this Christmas for gifts and stockings. I would have to say that not many surprises as for last 12 months we have been hearing, seeing, listening, touching these products pretty much all around us.

These gadgets brand have done a good job at marketing and touching 4 out of 5 senses. Well they left out taste. I am not sure if I would ever taste a gadget though.

To make this research even more interesting, I have listed next to each gadget how much they would cost in Australian dollars (approximate figures)

10. Nintendo DS - $250
9. iPod Nano - $300
8. iPod Touch - $400
7. xbox 360 - $700
6. Playstation 3 - $900
5. iPod - $500
4. Nokia N96 - $800
3. iPhone - $900
2. Nintendo Wii - $450
1. Wii Fit - $100

Total - $5300!!

Honestly, that wasn't too expensive :) My initial feeling was that it would be close $8000 but I was off by somewhere 35% :)

How to Install Boxee on Apple Tv

boxee.tv

Before I go any further - please read what boxee is below

boxee is a social media center. with boxee you can play videos, music and pictures from your PC or from the Internet. you can also share with your friends what albums you're listening to, what movies and TV shows you're watching, send recommendations and more.

boxee is designed to work with a remote control (it looks great on a big screen TV), but you can also control it using your keyboard.

once installed boxee will start scanning your local Movies, Music and Pictures folders automatically. boxee will attempt to bring artwork, reviews, cast, etc. for your media, so browsing your library becomes more useful and fun than looking at a list of files.

Here are the ways of installing boxee on your AppleTv

  1. insert a bootable USB key (1GB) to one of your USB slots and run the USB Creator (disconnect any external USB drives connected to your laptop to avoid crying once you discovered you just formatted a 1TB drive with all your media..). see a video how-to guide.
  2. plug the patchstick into your Apple TV and reboot it (i.e. disconnect and reconnect power cord), you’ll see a penguin. this is good. now wait till it finishes the install.
  3. take out the patchstick and reboot
  4. you’ll see a new option in the Apple TV menu ‘xbmc/boxee’, go to Update and choose ‘Boxee’. let it do its thing.

Phishing Detected! Facebook

I've been getting a warning saying a phishin site detected for this blog when I browse it in Goog;e chrome. When I look closely it was coming from someother site I linked "fbcdn.net". Strange it was the link I gave to my add my blog to Facebook.

Then I try to go to that url straight away and gives me the same warning. Evenfor facebook.com.
Is that a mistake or is it true? Are you getting the same warning or is it only me?
